Event Tips for Early March 2–15, 2026

The beginning of March brings culture, music, and a hint of game-time excitement to Uusikaupunki.  The spring edition of Uki Open Stage once again offers the chance to step into the spotlight – now is the perfect moment to grab a microphone, an instrument, or even a magic wand. And of course museums and art exhibitions offer their best, when few new exhibitions will be open.

Library events

vauvalorut

At the Main Library, the Read to a Dog session will take place on Tuesday, March 10, from 5–6 pm. The dogs will be in the library’s event space, and a separate reading area will be arranged with screens to give each reader their own quiet spot. Two canine listeners will be present at each session. Children can read picture books, comics, fairy tales, or even non-fiction books to the dogs. Each reading session lasts about 5–10 minutes, and participants are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.

On Wednesday, March 11, at 10 am, babies are invited to enjoy a rhyme session together with a parent, grandparent, or even a godparent. The session includes both traditional and newer nursery rhymes, as well as familiar children’s songs. Librarian Tuula Amberla will lead the session.

At Kalanti Library, a storytime will be held on Thursday, March 5, at 9:30 am, and at Uusikaupunki Library, Storytime takes place on Thursday, March 12, at 9:30 am. During these approximately 30-minute sessions, the youngest members of the family can dive into the wonderful world of stories. Children under the age of two are welcome with a parent or caregiver. The storytimes feature picture books related to different themes.

These events will be held in finnish language, but everybody are still welcome.

History comes alive at the museums

museo
The Wahlberg´s Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11) is located in the grid-plan town centre, surrounded by a charming wooden house district. The founder of Uusikaupunki’s tobacco factory, Fredrik Wahlberg, built this impressive residence for himself in the early 1870s.

The rooms still feature original decorative tiled stoves and exquisite ceiling paintings. In the salon, you can even admire hand-painted original wallpapers dating back more than 150 years. Upstairs, the exhibition focuses on shipbuilding, outfitting, and merchant seafaring. Sailors’ sea chests, souvenirs, ship paintings, and a captain’s navigational instruments vividly illustrate the city’s rich maritime history.

Younger visitors can play detective in the museum and complete exhibition-related tasks. You can explore maritime history and bourgeois life from Tuesday to Friday, 12–3 pm.

näyttely
The exhibition “Among the First – Women of Uusikaupunki in a Man’s World” at the Wahlberg Museum House presents a total of 13 women from the late 19th and early 20th centuries who were pioneers in professions that were officially open only to men at the time.

For a long period, occupations such as organist and physician were considered exclusively male professions. Many of these women also pursued hobbies that were not yet regarded as appropriate for women, such as hunting or sailing.

The exhibition is open during the museum’s regular opening hours until March 27th.

automuseo
The Car Museum, located on Autotehtaankatu, is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. Across three exhibition halls, you’ll find more than one hundred vehicles on display – from classic cars to futuristic concept models, as well as motorcycles and even an airplane.

A place of honour is given to Korvensuu (1913), the first Finnish car manufactured in Mynämäki. The museum also features the very first Saab produced at the Uusikaupunki car factory on November 13, 1969. This Saab 96 was presented to President Urho Kekkonen and carried the registration number EKA-96. In addition, visitors can see earlier Saabs manufactured in Trollhättan, Sweden, including the first Saab 92 registered in Finland in 1950.

The museum also includes a restoration workshop and a museum shop. On display is a diverse art exhibition selected from the collection of a Finnish collector, featuring works by artists such as Juhani Palmu and Pekka Laiho.
