History comes alive at the museums
Wahlberg's museum house (Ylinenkatu 11) is located in the grid-plan town centre, in a traditional wooden house setting. The impressive residence was built in the early 1870s by Fredrik Wahlberg, the founder of the Uusikaupunki tobacco factory.
Many of the rooms have preserved their original decorative tiled stoves and skilful ceiling paintings. In the salon, visitors can admire hand-painted original wallpapers dating back over 150 years. The upper floor of the museum focuses on shipbuilding, ship outfitting and merchant shipping. Seamen’s chests, souvenirs, ship paintings and a captain’s navigation instruments offer an engaging insight into the town’s maritime history.
Younger visitors can play detective and complete exhibition-related activities in the museum. Maritime history and bourgeois life can be explored from Tuesday to Friday, from noon to 3 pm.

The exhibition “Among the First – Women of Uusikaupunki in a Man’s World” at Wahlberg's museum house presents a total of 13 women from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries who were pioneers in professions that were officially open only to men at the time. Such professions long included, for example, organists and physicians.
Many of these women also pursued activities that were not yet considered socially acceptable for women, such as hunting or sailing. The exhibition is open during the museum’s regular opening hours until late March 2026.

Located on Autotehtaankatu, the Car Museum is open every day from 11 am to 5 pm. Spread across three halls, the museum showcases over one hundred vehicles – from classic cars to futuristic concept models, as well as motorcycles and even an aircraft.
A place of honour is given to Korvensuu from 1913, the first Finnish car manufactured in Mynämäki. The museum also features the first Saab car produced at the Uusikaupunki car factory on 13 November 1969. This Saab 96 was presented to President Urho Kekkonen and carried the registration number EKA-96. In addition, visitors can see older Saabs manufactured in Trollhättan, Sweden, including the first Saab 92 registered in Finland in 1950.
The museum also offers access to a restoration workshop and a museum shop. On display is furthermore a diverse art exhibition drawn from a Finnish private collection, featuring works by Juhani Palmu and Pekka Laiho, among others.
