What's On in Uusikaupunki, 7–20 September 2026

September continues with a wonderfully varied programme and plenty to see and do! 🍂✨

There’s live music, theatre, art, history, exercise and a wide range of events at the local libraries. Uki Open Stage invites performers to take the stage, a new Dreamscapes -exhibition opens at Cruselli, and the Maritime Evening series takes a dive into local history.

One of September’s highlights is the Avoimet lauteet Sauna Day, when a variety of saunas across the Vakka-Suomi region open their doors to visitors. The autumn theatre season also gets underway as performances of the comedy Karavaanari – kaikkien kaveri begin at Uusikaupunki Theatre.

Avoimet lauteet Sauna Day – Sat 19 September, 10 am–9 pm

Come and discover the diverse sauna culture of the Vakka-Suomi region! Avoimet lauteet Sauna Day opens the doors to saunas that are not normally accessible to the public. Explore different saunas around the region at your own pace – from private home saunas and association-run saunas to public saunas.

Uusikaupunki Theatre: Karavaanari – kaikkien kaveri – Premiere Sat 19 September at 4 pm

In this fast-paced comedy, actor Mikko Aarnela accidentally witnesses a murder and finds himself on the run among a group of caravan enthusiasts. What follows is an entertaining adventure full of misunderstandings, unexpected twists and feel-good humour. Hop aboard and join the convoy! Please note: The performance is in Finnish.

• Music Moment at Sakunkulma Tue 8 September at 1.45 pm, Zachariasseninkatu 1. Päivi Kurkilahti leads a sing-along featuring familiar tunes and beautiful interpretations. The event is free of charge and open to everyone.
• Read to a Dog – Vakka-Suomen karvakaverit Tue 8 September, 5–6 pm, Kalanti Library, Pankkitie 2. Two friendly dogs will be there to listen, and you can read them picture books, storybooks or even non-fiction. Each reading session lasts about 5–10 minutes, and readers are welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Presidentin kyyditys Wed 9 September at 4 pm and The Odyssey at 5.45 pm, Cinema Kuvala, Alinenkatu 16.
• Kino Rauha: Sound of Metal Wed 9 September at 6 pm, Main Library, Alinenkatu 34. Heavy metal drummer Ruben (Riz Ahmed) loses his hearing and must learn a new way to live and communicate. Directed by Darius Marder, the film has an age rating of 12. Kino Rauha is Uusikaupunki Library's film club, where films from the Vaski Libraries collection with screening rights are watched together. The event is free of charge and open to everyone.
• Storytime Thu 10 September at 9.30 am, Kalanti Library, Pankkitie 2. Picture books based on different themes are read during the storytime sessions. Children under 2 should attend with a parent or carer.

• Local Food Day Sat–Sun 12–13 September, 11 am–3 pm. In the Uusikaupunki area, Mehiläistarha Hunajatar (Kappelintie 253, Kalanti) opens its doors to visitors. Discover the fascinating world of bees and enjoy the atmosphere of the countryside. See bees in a glass observation hive, learn about beekeeping equipment and meet the farm's chickens, pigs and dogs. Finnish honey is also available to buy. Both days feature bingo at 1 pm, a raffle and a buffet. For children, there is a bouncy castle, hobby horse course and fishing game.

• September Maritime Evening Thu 17 September at 6 pm, Cruselli, Kullervontie 11. The first lecture of the autumn will be given by Timo Laurmaa on the topic “The People of Uusikaupunki in 1808 – Personal Records from the Archives on a Map”. The Maritime Evenings are open lectures exploring local and national maritime history. Coffee will be served after the lecture, with a voluntary contribution.
• Children's Saturday Movie: Spirited Away Sat 19 September at 11.30 am, Main Library, Alinenkatu 34. In this Oscar-winning animated film, Chihiro and her parents stumble into a mysterious world where spirits and magic are real. When her parents are transformed into pigs, Chihiro must find a way to save them. This fantastic adventure appeals to children and adults alike. Age rating 7. The film is dubbed in Finnish. Free admission.
• Stars above the sea (Tähdet meren yllä) Concert Sat 19 September at 4 pm, Työväentalo, Ylinenkatu 12. An acoustic concert where stories are told through music in Finnish, French, Spanish and English. Tickets €15, including refreshments during the interval.

Pulperi Karaoke – Puluoke every Saturday from 9 pm to 1.30 am.

Every Saturday from 10 pm, Bistro Bay transforms into kluBBen – the place for laid-back clubbing. Come and enjoy the music, relax and have a good time. Around midnight, the lights go down, the disco ball starts spinning and the night really gets going.

New Church, Rauhankatu 3.
Open on Thursdays from 4–6 pm. In the chancel, you can visit the prayer altar and light a candle if you wish. This Gothic-style church was completed in 1865 and designed by architect Georg Theodor von Chiewitz. Free admission.

Exhibitions

• Pakkahuone Café: Tommi Flankkila’s exhibition Moments Gone By. The works are on display in the café’s exhibition space.
  Open daily from 8 am to 8 pm. (Pakkahuoneentori 1).
• Cultural Centre Cruselli – Veera Ruohomäki’s exhibition Dreamscapes.
  Cruselli is open Tue–Wed and Fri from 10 am to 4 pm, and Thu from 10 am to 6 pm. (Kullervontie 11A).
• Runonkulma Gallery and Pikkukylän Puoti (Ylinenkatu 38B). The gallery features Ann-Sofi Kattilakoski’s exhibition Small but Great, showcasing graphic art. Pikkukylän Puoti offers a good selection of Finnish handicrafts, design and art products. The gallery and shop are open Wed from 11 am to 7 pm, Thu–Fri from 11 am to 5 pm and Sat from 11 am to 3 pm.
• Gallery Horisontti – Kyösti Hallikainen’s exhibition Colours, with the latest works by members of the Uusikaupunki Art Association on display in the studio. Open Wed–Fri from 12 noon to 3 pm and Sat from 10 am to 1 pm. (Alinenkatu 24).
• Blankets and Clothes – Made in Uusikaupunki exhibition, Wahlberg’s Museum House, Ylinenkatu 11.
  Uusikaupunki’s textile industry flourished particularly from the 1940s to the 1960s and employed many women, although the city’s first textile factory was established as early as 1919. The most significant company in the industry, Uudenkaupungin 
  villatavaratehdas (later Uuvi Oy), operated until 1987. The city was also home to more than ten other textile companies 
  producing fabrics, socks and clothing, among other products. The exhibition presents the history of these companies and shares the stories of people who worked in the industry. The exhibition is open Tue–Fri from 12 noon to 3 pm.
• Scale Model Exhibition (Kylähiidentie 55, Kalanti). The exhibition features around 80 miniature models of objects from the past, including cars, aeroplanes, motorcycles and ships, as well as a scale model of Tutankhamun’s tomb and Keke Rosberg’s world championship-winning car. • Uusikaupunki Library, Gallery Kirjava: Elisa Haapasalo’s exhibition featuring nature-themed watercolours.
  The library is open Mon–Thu from 10 am to 6 pm, Fri from 10 am to 5 pm and Sat from 10 am to 2 pm. (Alinenkatu 34).
  Respectfully renovated to preserve its historic character, the Main Library combines a historic setting with modern library services.
• Kalanti Library, Raimon Kammari: Uusikaupunki Art Association’s exhibition Do You See It This Way? Throughout September, works by Hiltu Sallinen, Heli Sammalisto, Valto Vaalikivi, Seija Itäranta, Tiina Kuusikoski and Kirsti Lento are on 
  display. The library is open Tue from 1 pm to 7 pm and Wed–Fri from 10 am to 4 pm. (Pankkitie 2, Kalanti).

Museums

• Uusikaupunki Automobile Museum (Autotehtaankatu 11), open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. The Automobile Museum is one of Finland’s most notable car museums and one of Uusikaupunki’s most popular year-round attractions. Its three exhibition halls showcase classic cars, the story of the Finnish automotive industry and unique special exhibitions. Highlights include Korvensuu from 1913, the first car built in Finland, as well as an extensive Saab collection.
• Wahlberg’s Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11), open Tue–Fri from 12 noon to 3 pm.

• Day cruises Fri–Sun from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm, departing from behind Pakkahuone Guest Harbour, Pakkahuoneenkuja 2. The price includes boat trips, a guided island tour, admission to the lighthouse and lunch. The last cruise of the season is on Sun 20 September.

Well-being, Outdoor Activities and Exercise

• Water Aerobics for Seniors every Monday and Wednesday from 3–3.45 pm, Swimming Hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. A basic water aerobics class open to everyone and especially suitable for seniors. The class includes aerobic exercise, strength training and stretching. Various aquatic exercise equipment is also used. No advance booking required.
  Swimming fee + instruction fee €3.50.
• Shoulders, Back & Abs every Monday from 4.30–5.30 pm, Wintteri group exercise room, Pohjoistullitie 3. An easy and 
  effective exercise class with no step combinations or jumping. The class includes a warm-up, varied strength exercises and stretching, with a particular focus on the back, shoulders and abdominal muscles. Suitable for everyone, especially those with sedentary jobs. Instruction fee €6.50.
• Aqua Circuit Training on Mondays from 6–6.45 pm, Swimming Hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. An effective circuit workout in the water that raises your heart rate and improves overall fitness. Various aquatic exercise equipment is used, and the class ends with a short stretching session. No advance booking required. Swimming fee + instruction fee €3.50.
• Fitness Boxing on Mondays from 6–7 pm, Wintteri martial arts hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. An effective and versatile workout
  suitable for everyone. The class includes boxing technique with focus mitts and punching bags as well as strength and aerobic training. There is no head contact or hard body contact. Please note that shoes are not worn in the martial arts hall. 
  Instruction fee €6.50.
• Chair Dance for Seniors at Sakunkulma Tue 8 September at 10 am, Zachariasseninkatu 1.
• Fitness Class every Tuesday from 1–2 pm, Wintteri group exercise room, Pohjoistullitie 3. An easy functional workout 
  especially suitable for older adults, but open to all ages. Exercises vary from circuit training to workout-of-the-day sessions, 
  using equipment and bodyweight exercises. No jumping. Instruction fee €6.50.
• High-Intensity Workout on Tuesdays from 5.30–6.30 pm, Wintteri athletics area, Pohjoistullitie 3. An effective and varied functional workout combining mobility, strength and cardio exercises, as well as jumping and running. Instruction fee €6.50.
• Adapted Gym Workout on Wednesdays from 10–11 am, Wintteri, Pohjoistullitie 3. An adapted gym session for people who may find it difficult to participate in general exercise groups. The class includes a warm-up, independent gym exercises and stretching. An instructor is available throughout the session to provide assistance. Participants requiring additional support should bring their own assistant. Free of charge.
• Strength and Balance Group on Wednesdays from 11–11.45 am, Wintteri Uusikaupunki Arena, Pohjoistullitie 3. An accessible exercise group designed to maintain and improve functional ability. The class focuses on strength, mobility and balance using bodyweight exercises and equipment. Exercises can be adapted to each participant’s abilities, and mobility aids are welcome. Free of charge.
• Open Supervised Gym Session on Wednesdays from 1–2 pm, Wintteri, Pohjoistullitie 3. A supervised gym session with an 
  instructor available to assist with equipment and exercises. The session includes a short warm-up, independent gym training and stretching. Gym admission fee applies; no instruction fee.
• Power 45 Water Aerobics on Wednesdays at 6 pm, Swimming Hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. An energetic water aerobics class to 
  music, including aerobic exercise, strength training and short stretches. Various aquatic exercise equipment is also used. No advance booking required. Swimming fee + instruction fee €3.50.
• Social Dance Course on Thursdays from 6–9 pm, Työväentalo, Ylinenkatu 12. Social dancing is a fun and effective form of 
  exercise suitable for everyone. Drop-in classes allow you to participate whenever it suits you, with no advance registration or commitment to a full course. Come on your own, with a partner or with friends. Changing partners is optional. Organised by Tanssiseura Sekahaku.
• Ellen’s Autumn Kick-Off Sat 19 September from 10 am–1 pm, Ainonkuja 5. Try three different themed classes – body 
  conditioning, strength and dance! Join all three hours or choose the classes that suit you best.
  10 am Barre & Pilates, 11 am Power & Flex, and 12 noon Disco. Bring indoor trainers and plenty of party spirit!

• Hiunjärvi Outdoor Trail, starting from the Saarnisto School car park, Pajusuontie.
• Kasarminlahti Trail, the marked trail starts from the Sports Field car park at Etelälinjakatu 2, while the accessible section starts at Kasarminlahdentie 8. From the birdwatching platform, you can continue beyond the accessible section along a more demanding trail to the Kasarminlahti lean-to shelter or the Vionpuhti campfire site.
• Pamprinniemi Nature Trail, Hauintie 259, Pyhämaa. The approximately 4 km Pamprinniemi Nature Trail is located in Ketteli, Pyhämaa, on land owned by the parish.
• Oinassaari Lean-to Shelter, Oinassaarentie 166. Oinassaari is a pleasant excursion destination for visitors travelling by car, boat or bicycle. It is located on Korsaari Island, approximately 18 km from the centre of Uusikaupunki in the direction of Lepäinen.
