Crusell Footsteps Walking Tour

Take a journey back in time to late 18th-century Uusikaupunki on Wednesday, July 15 at 2:00 PM. This guided walking tour introduces participants to the childhood surroundings of composer and clarinetist Bernhard Henrik Crusell. Along the way, you will hear what life was like in Uusikaupunki during Crusell’s time, visit the site of his birthplace, and discover how his legacy can still be seen in the town today.

The tour starts at the Peace Memorial on the Market Square and ends at the Market Square. The tour has been designed and will be guided by licensed tourist guide Hanna Nieminen.

Guided Tour with Sanni Winter

The daughter of a shipmaster grew up to become a teacher, bookseller, and an influential figure in Uusikaupunki. On this experiential guided tour on Wednesday, July 22 at 2:00 PM, you will hear how Alexandra Berglund became Mrs. Assessor Sanni Winter and learn about the lasting impact she left on her hometown.

The tour was designed and scripted by tourist guide Riitta Kilkku, who also serves as the guide in the role of Sanni Winter.

The tour departs from in front of the ice cream kiosk at the Pakkahuone Guest Marina.

Secrets of Uusikaupunki – Children's Ghost Tour

One of this summer’s new attractions has been the guided ghost tours for children, and the second tour of July will take place on Thursday, July 23 at 4:00 PM. Friendly ghosts Lantern Lydia and Net Vilma will guide participants through riddles, ghost stories, and secrets from times gone by.

The tour is suitable for children aged 5–12 accompanied by an adult, and every child will receive a small bravery badge as a souvenir of the adventure.

The tour departs from below Restaurant Vallila, at Alinenkatu 41.

Price: €10 per participant.

The final ghost tour of the summer will be held on August 6 at 4:00 PM.

Courtyards and Wooden Houses Tour

The Courtyards and Wooden Houses Tours, organized by the Association of Old Houses of Uusikaupunki, have once again proven popular this summer. Accompanied by a guide, visitors explore the courtyards and gardens of historic wooden houses while learning about local history, the stories behind the buildings, traditional garden plants, and the ways in which old heritage has been preserved alongside modern additions.

During the tour, participants will enjoy afternoon coffee in a charming garden setting, surrounded by flowers and a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere.

The July tours take place on Tuesdays, July 14 and July 21 at 3:00 PM, and last approximately two hours. The tour begins in front of the New Church and ends near the Old Church.

The guide is Tuula-Riitta Karlin, an authorized tourist guide of Uusikaupunki.

Paha Perii Pablo is a full-blooded farce with unexpected twists, narrow escapes, and shameless emergency lies. In Amanda’s bedroom, almost nothing is ever what it seems, and the hunt for an inheritance is not easy for anyone. Although it follows the tradition of British farce, the play is a brand-new work written specifically for the Pyhämaa Summer Theatre. It is directed by Lauri Ketonen, a seasoned farce specialist who has previously brought his talents to the Summer Theatre. Once again, audiences can look forward to guaranteed entertainment and uncontrollable laughter this summer.

The final performances of the play are: Tue 14 July at 7 PM, Wed 15 July at 7 PM, Thu 16 July at 7 PM, Sat 18 July at 3 PM, and Sun 19 July at 2 PM and 6 PM.

Exhibitions

Blankets and Clothing – Made in Uusikaupunki Exhibition, Wahlberg Museum House, Ylinenkatu 11.
Uusikaupunki’s textile industry flourished particularly during the 1940s–1960s and employed a large number of women, although the first factory had already been established in 1919. The most significant company in the industry, the Uusikaupunki Woollen Goods Factory (later Uuvi Oy), operated until 1987. In addition, the town was home to more than ten other textile companies producing fabrics, socks, and clothing, among other products. The exhibition presents the history of these companies and gives a voice to the people who worked in the industry.
The exhibition is open Mon–Fri from 10 AM–5 PM and Sat–Sun from 11 AM–4 PM.

Uusikaupunki Maritime Centre (Pakkahuoneentori), open Tue–Sun from 11 AM–6 PM. This year’s main exhibition focuses on Maritime Rescue. The exhibition, organized by the Uusikaupunki Maritime History Association, presents both local and national maritime rescue operations, past and present. It also features selected museum artefacts and photographs.

Miniature Model Exhibition (Kylähiidentie 55, Kalanti), open daily from 10 AM–6 PM. The exhibition features approximately 80 historical objects, including cars, aircraft, motorcycles, ships, a miniature replica of Tutankhamun’s tomb, and Keke Rosberg’s World Championship-winning race car. Admission: €5/adult and €3/child.

Tupsula – The Exhibition of Thousands of Pom-poms and Päivi Virkkunen’s exhibition: Night in the Garden. Open Tue and Thu from 1–5 PM and Sat from 10 AM–2 PM. (Alinenkatu 24). For everyone’s delight this summer, the people of Tupsula have also created a magnificent crocheted pom-pom boat on display at the Pakkahuone waterfront.

Gallery Horisontti – Hiltu Sallinen’s exhibition “Näin Näin” is on display in the gallery’s main space, while paintings and graphic art by Tiina Kuusikoski are exhibited in the studio area. Open Wed–Fri from 12–3 PM and Sat from 10 AM–1 PM. (Alinenkatu 24).

Runonkulma Gallery and Pikkukylä Shop (Ylinenkatu 38B). Until 18 July, the gallery presents the exhibition At the Sources, featuring works by Seija Honkanen and Pipa Hytinkoski. The opening of Annukka Pietilä’s exhibition Mielensaaristo – Sinnets Skärgård will take place on 21 July at 6 PM. The exhibition runs until 15 August. The gallery is open Wed–Fri from 11 AM–5 PM and Sat from 11 AM–3 PM.

Uusikaupunki Library, Gallery Kirjava: Tarja Karawatski – Wanderer of the Shores exhibition. The library is open Mon–Thu from 10 AM–6 PM, Fri from 10 AM–5 PM, and Sat from 10 AM–2 PM. (Alinenkatu 34). Respectfully renovated with its history in mind, the main library combines a historic setting with modern library services. The renovation completed in 2025 brought comfortable, contemporary, and fully accessible facilities for visitors of all ages.

Pakkahuone Café: Works by Lasse Jännes are on display in the café’s exhibition space. Open daily from 8 AM–10 PM. (Pakkahuoneentori 1).

Käsityöpuar (Pyhämaanranta 37, Pyhämaa). The shop offers locally made handicrafts from Pyhämaa, including seafaring crafts, miniature models, jewellery, knitwear, table runners, towels, rag rugs, woven textiles, and ceramics. The shop is open Wed–Sun from 10 AM–4 PM.

Ingrid Biese’s Summer Exhibition on the island of Iso-Vehanen: The World Can Be A Beautiful Place. Strandstugan can be reached by boat. Boats may be moored at the pier on the western side of Naskalvik Bay on Iso-Vehanen. First follow the line formed by two white boards from the green navigation marker at Rantakari, then proceed through the middle of the bay to the pier. From the pier, it is approximately a 200-metre walk to the gallery. The exhibition is open 24 hours a day.
 

Taidetalo Pilvilinna

Pilvilinna

Pilvilinna (Hiuntie 212) is a unique art destination filled with joy, colour, and surprises. Artist Raija Nokkala’s naïve paintings and humorous sculptures are displayed throughout the Pilvilinna grounds. Changing sales exhibitions, the fun sculptures along the art trail, and the seaside surroundings make Pilvilinna a unique place where visitors of all ages can enjoy themselves.

Pilvilinna is open every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 2–6 PM. There is also a café at Pilvilinna.

Admission during regular opening hours: €9/person and €5/child (2–10 years).

  • Sailor’s Home Museum, Myllykatu 20. Open daily from 12–3 PM. Free admission.
  • Pilot Museum, Mäyhälänkatu 2B. Open daily from 12–3 PM. Free admission.
  • Wahlberg Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11), open Mon–Fri from 10 AM–5 PM and Sat–Sun from 11 AM–4 PM.
    The museum’s summer guided tours take place on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM and Thursdays at 3:30 PM. The guided tour is included in the admission fee (€6). The museum courtyard also features a cobbler’s workshop and a children’s playground.
  • Bonk Museum and Children’s Invention Workshop (Siltakatu 2). The Bonk Museum presents the bewildering and humorous world of the fictional industrial empire Bonk Business Inc. The exhibition includes unusual Bonk devices, such as non-functional machines and imaginative inventions dating from the 1800s to the 1950s. Bonk is a fantasy concept created by artist Alvar Gullichsen, around which an entire fictional corporate history has been built. Bonk is open daily from 10 AM–6 PM. bonkcentre.fi
  • Automobile Museum (Autotehtaankatu 11), open daily from 10 AM–6 PM. The Automobile Museum is one of Finland’s most significant car museums and one of Uusikaupunki’s most popular year-round attractions. Across three exhibition halls, visitors can explore classic vehicles, the story of the Finnish automotive industry, and unique special exhibitions. Highlights of the collection include Korvensuu, the first car manufactured in Finland (1913), as well as an extensive Saab collection.

Beach Yoga at Santtioranta (Kalalokkikuja 14) every Wednesday morning from 9–10 AM. The class includes breathing exercises, body control, and stretching, strengthening, and opening movements. Please bring an exercise/yoga mat, a towel or blanket, and a water bottle. Dress according to the weather; in case of rain, the class will not be held. The fee is €11, payable on-site. Sauna & Body Fri 17 July from 9:30–11 AM, Saunalaituri Höyry, Pilssitie 23. This class is a gentle wellness experience created by Saunalaituri Höyry and The Mindful Wave, combining sauna, a mindfulness body scan, and the refreshing sea. Participants relax in the warmth of the sauna and take part in a guided body scan designed to support recovery and present-moment awareness. After the session, you can enjoy the sauna and, if you wish, a swim in the sea at your own pace. The class is led by mindfulness and wellbeing coach Pirkko Aalto. Uusikaupunki Golf Club’s junior programme offers summer courses for young golfers, with the aim of making it as easy as possible to start the hobby. Hiunjärvi Outdoor Trail, starting from the parking area of Saarnisto School, Pajusuontie.

Kasarminlahti Trail, a marked trail beginning from the Sports Field parking area at Etelälinjakatu 2, while the accessible section starts at Kasarminlahdentie 8. In addition to the accessible route, visitors can continue from the birdwatching tower along a more demanding trail to the Kasarminlahti lean-to shelter or the Vionpuhti campfire site.

Pamprinniemi Nature Trail, Hauintie 259, Pyhämaa. The trail is located in Ketteli, Pyhämaa, on parish-owned land and is approximately 4 km long.

Oinassaari Lean-to Shelter, Oinassaarentie 166. Oinassaari is a pleasant excursion destination for motorists, boaters, and cyclists alike. It is located on Korsaari Island, approximately 18 km from the centre of Uusikaupunki towards Lepäinen.
