History comes to life in museums

museo
Wahlberg's Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11) is located in the town’s grid-plan area, surrounded by charming wooden houses. The impressive residence was built in the early 1870s by Fredrik Wahlberg, the founder of Uusikaupunki’s tobacco factory.

Inside the house, many original details have been beautifully preserved. The rooms feature ornate tiled stoves and intricate ceiling paintings, and in the salon you can even admire hand-painted original wallpapers dating back over 150 years.

Upstairs, the museum presents the story of shipbuilding, outfitting, and maritime trade. Sailors’ chests, souvenirs, ship paintings, and navigational instruments offer a fascinating glimpse into the city’s seafaring past.

Younger visitors can also enjoy the museum by playing detective and completing exhibition-related tasks.

You can explore maritime history and bourgeois life at the museum from Tuesday to Friday, 12 PM to 3 PM

automuseo

This Saab 96 was presented to President Urho Kekkonen and carried the license plate EKA-96. In addition, visitors can see earlier Saab models made in Trollhättan, Sweden, including the first Saab 92 registered in Finland from 1950.

Pamprinniemellä meren rannalla
At last spring is here and you can enjoy the coastal nature of Uusikaupunki in many wonderful ways.

A great option is the Pamprinniemi nature trail in Pyhämaa, where the sea and peaceful surroundings create the perfect setting for a refreshing walk. Closer to the town center, Hiunjärvi – known as a bird lake – offers a nature trail and a lean-to shelter, making it an ideal spot for both birdwatching and a relaxing outdoor break.

You can also head to Kasarminlahti, where an accessible outdoor route leads to a birdwatching tower. The trail can be reached, for example, from the sports field parking area, and there is also a lean-to shelter nearby.

For a slightly longer excursion, the Oinassaari lean-to shelter in Korsaari is a lovely destination, about 18 kilometers from the city center towards Lepäinen. Pack some snacks for grilling and enjoy a day outdoors!
