Evens in April 7.-12.4.2026
The city library and cultural venues once again invite you to enjoy a diverse program this week. There will be music and storytelling for both the youngest members of the family and adults alike. The city’s nature trails and sauna experiences offer nourishment for both mind and body – and from the end of the week onwards, you can also stop by the Pakkahuone to enjoy its famous doughnuts.
Library events

The “Read to a Dog” session at Uusikaupunki Library will take place on Tuesday, April 7 from 5 to 6 PM. The dogs will be in the library’s event space, and each reader will have their own quiet reading spot separated by screens. There will be two listening dogs present at each session. You can read picture books, comics, fairy tales, or even non-fiction to the dog. Each reading session lasts about 5–10 minutes, and turns are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
On Wednesday, April 8 at 10 AM, babies are invited to enjoy rhyme time together with a parent, grandparent, or godparent. The session includes both traditional and newer nursery rhymes, as well as familiar children’s songs. The session is led by librarian Tuula Amberla.
The library’s storytime will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 9:30 AM. The youngest members of the family can dive into the magical world of stories during this approximately 30-minute session. Children under the age of two should attend with a parent or caregiver. The sessions feature picture books based on different themes.
On Thursday, April 9 at 3:30 PM, the youth film The Boy and the Heron will be shown at the city library. The story follows a young boy, Mahito, who is grieving his mother and is drawn into a mysterious world where the boundaries between the living and the dead begin to blur. There, death is not the end, but the beginning of something new. The film is rated 12+.

History comes to life in museums
Wahlberg’s House Museum is located in the town’s grid-plan area, surrounded by a charming wooden house district. The founder of the Uusikaupunki tobacco factory, Fredrik Wahlberg, built this impressive residence for himself in the early 1870s.
The rooms still feature original decorative tiled stoves and beautifully crafted ceiling paintings. In the salon, you can even admire hand-painted original wallpapers dating back over 150 years.
The upstairs exhibition presents shipbuilding, outfitting, and maritime trade. Sailors’ chests, souvenirs, ship paintings, and a captain’s navigation instruments offer a fascinating insight into the city’s maritime history.
For younger visitors, the museum also offers detective-themed activities and exhibition-related tasks.
You can explore maritime history and bourgeois life at the museum from Tuesday to Friday, 12–3 PM.

The Uusikaupunki Car Museum is open daily from 11 AM to 5 PM. Across three exhibition halls, you can explore over a hundred vehicles – from classic cars to futuristic concept models, as well as motorcycles and even an aircraft.
A place of honour is given to Korvensuu (1913), the first Finnish car manufactured in Mynämäki. The museum also features the first Saab produced at the Uusikaupunki car factory on November 13, 1969. This Saab 96 was presented to President Urho Kekkonen and carried the registration EKA-96. In addition, visitors can see earlier Saab models made in Trollhättan, Sweden, including the first Saab 92 registered in Finland in 1950.
The museum also includes a restoration workshop and a museum shop. The featured artist for April is photographer Teemu Laulajainen, whose exhibition “Human and Climate Change” is on display.
