Event Tips for 10–23 August 2026

Mid-August brings a wonderful variety of events and activities to Uusikaupunki. Over the next two weeks, you can enjoy culture, an incredibly diverse selection of music, sports and activities, and of course the city’s unique seaside atmosphere.

There’s plenty to see and do for both locals and summer visitors, so make the most of these August days and join in the events around the city!

Music

Younghearted

Younghearted on Friday 14 August at 10 pm at Gasthaus Pooki (Ylinenkatu 21). Younghearted is a warm-hearted Finnish pop trio whose sensitive and melodic sound combines acoustic elements with timeless pop. The band is particularly known for their hits Hetkeksi, Tässä ja nyt and Hullaannun, as well as their touching live performances. In 2022, Younghearted also competed in Finland’s Contest for New Music (UMK) with their song Sun numero.

Vanha kirkko

A summer concert will be held at Uusikaupunki Old Church on Sunday 16 August at 2 pm, featuring the Lavrenchuk musical family. This six-member ensemble has performed in Finnish parishes for nearly 20 years. The concert will feature classics from the world of music as well as spiritual songs, accompanied by piano, accordion, violins, kantele and vocals. The family’s warm interaction with the audience makes every concert a unique experience. Free admission, programme €10.

Pasi Flodström, Tango King 2023, and piano virtuoso Mirka Dojan will perform at Pyhämaa Summer Theatre on Sunday 16 August at 4 pm (Pyhämaantie 1076). The warm-hearted Auringon alla (Under the Sun) summer concert features familiar and much-loved songs filled with the spirit of summer. The audience will also have a chance to join in and sing along to selected songs. Tickets €15 (at the door or in advance, tel. +358 44 537 4390).
In case of rain, the concert will be held at the local Youth Association Hall.

The joint tour of Compañía Kaari & Roni Martin and Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L arrives in Uusikaupunki on Thursday 20 August at 6.30 pm at Työväentalo (Ylinenkatu 12).

Compañía Kaari & Roni Martin goes ROOTS brings together musical traditions from different cultures in a unique performance where Arabic and Jewish music meet the rhythms of flamenco and the Finnish bowed lyre, jouhikko.
In this international production, movement and music are closely intertwined.

Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L draws inspiration from Finnish and Karelian musical traditions, combining them with modern rhythmic music and influences from musical cultures around the world. The result is a distinctive and atmospheric concert experience.

Tul Toril – Multicultural Market on Sat 15 August from 10 am to 1 pm. The programme includes a Hollywood-style stunt show, circus and ballet performances, and a hair fashion show. Performers include Dorcas Lusajo and Saul Shane, known from The Voice of Finland, as well as a Ukrainian women’s choir and several international artists. The international food market offers flavours from around the world.

Children’s Night of the Arts on Sat 15 August from 2 to 4 pm, Gasthaus Pooki’s barn, Ylinenkatu 21. The programme includes shadow theatre and a music session.
Live Music Saturdays at Santtioranta from 5 to 8 pm: Sami Arojoki performs on Sat 15 August and Rami Rafael on Sat 22 August. (Kalalokkikuja 14). Free admission.
Wine and Hymns Evening on Sat 15 August from 6 to 9 pm, Gasthaus Pooki, Ylinenkatu 21. The evening’s guest is poet Katja Seutu, joined by composer Kuura Klaavu. The event is hosted by Päivi Sappinen, with Petri Hatakka on piano.
Volunteer Work to Protect the Endangered Maiden Pink on Wed 19 August from 5.30 to 7.30 pm. Join an open volunteer event at the Hermansaari meadow to help maintain the habitat of the endangered maiden pink by mowing and raking the grass around the plants. The meeting point is along Taivassalontie, 250 metres from the Erkontie junction in the direction of Taivassalo. The event is organised by the Uusikaupunki Region Environmental Association together with the Southwest Finland district of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.

Männäinen Market: Volunteer Fire Brigade Market on Fri 21 August from 4 to 7 pm at Kalantitalo, Pankkitie 1, Kalanti.
Tul Toril – Senior Market on Sat 22 August from 10 am to 1 pm. The programme includes light-hearted competitions, bingo and a granny disco. Music will be provided by Leena Kallonen and Päivi Kurkilahti.
Taimitivoli – Plant Carnival on Sat 22 August from 10 am to 4 pm in Leijonapuisto Park, Sorvakon rantatie. Held on the shores of Kaupunginlahti Bay, Taimitivoli is a brand-new flower and plant event for garden lovers. Leijonapuisto Park will be filled with vendors selling seedlings, perennials, bulbs, shrubs and trees, as well as local producers and small-scale local sellers. Browse for garden treasures, listen to growers’ tips, pick up ideas for autumn planting and enjoy refreshments at the Martta Association’s café. This free event invites everyone to enjoy an inspiring day in the beautiful surroundings of Kaupunginlahti Bay.

Tupsula

Exhibitions

Tupsula – an exhibition of thousands of pom-poms and Päivi Virkkunen’s exhibition Yö puutarhassa (Night in the Garden). Open Tue and Thu from 1 to 5 pm and Sat from 10 am to 2 pm. (Alinenkatu 24). As a special addition this summer, the Tupsula team has also created an impressive boat made of crocheted pom-poms, on display by the Pakkahuone
waterfront. Tupsula closes its door on 29 August.
Cultural Centre Cruselli – Kustavi Art Association’s exhibition Meidän Isokari – Meriveden makuista taidetta (Our Isokari – Art with a Taste of the Sea). Cruselli is open Tue–Wed and Fri from 10 am to 4 pm and Thu from 10 am to 6 pm. (Kullervontie 11A).
Runonkulma Gallery and Pikkukylän Puoti (Ylinenkatu 38B). On display is Annukka Pietilä’s exhibition Mielensaaristo – Sinnets Skärgård (until 15 August). Pikkukylän Puoti offers a great selection of Finnish handicrafts, design products and art. The gallery and shop are open Wed–Fri from 11 am to 5 pm and Sat from 11 am to 3 pm.
Gallery Horisontti – works by Kirsti Lennon are on display in the main gallery space, while the studio hosts a memorial
exhibition dedicated to Lotta Rosendahl. Open Wed–Fri from 12 noon to 3 pm and Sat from 10 am to 1 pm. (Alinenkatu 24).
Blankets and Clothes – Made in Uusikaupunki exhibition, Wahlberg’s Museum House, Ylinenkatu 11.
Uusikaupunki’s textile industry flourished particularly from the 1940s to the 1960s and employed a large number of women, although the city’s first textile factory had already been established in 1919. The industry’s most significant company, Uudenkaupungin villatavaratehdas (later Uuvi Oy), operated until 1987. The city was also home to more than ten other textile companies producing fabrics, socks, clothing and other products. The exhibition explores the history of these companies and gives a voice to the people who worked in the industry.
The exhibition is open Mon–Fri from 10 am to 5 pm and Sat–Sun from 11 am to 4 pm.
Scale Model Exhibition (Kylähiidentie 55, Kalanti), open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. The exhibition features around 80 models of objects from times gone by, including cars, aeroplanes, motorcycles and ships, as well as a miniature version of Tutankhamun’s tomb and Keke Rosberg’s World Championship-winning car. Tickets €5/adult and €3/child.
Uusikaupunki Library, Gallery Kirjava: Tiia Kopsa – Hetkiä luonnossa (Moments in Nature). The library is open Mon–Thu from 10 am to 6 pm, Fri from 10 am to 5 pm and Sat from 10 am to 2 pm. (Alinenkatu 34). Respectfully renovated with its
historic character in mind, the Main Library combines a historic setting with modern library services. The renovation, completed in 2025, created welcoming, contemporary and accessible facilities for visitors of all ages.
Pakkahuone Café: works by Lasse Jännes are on display in the café’s exhibition space until 16 August. Open daily from 8 am to 10 pm. (Pakkahuoneentori 1). On Monday 17 August, an exhibition by Tommi Flankkila opens.
Vakka-Suomi Art Association’s 50th Anniversary Exhibition in the glass pavilion at the Market Square.
Käsityöpuar handicraft shop (Pyhämaanranta 37, Pyhämaa). The shop sells handicrafts made in Pyhämaa, including traditional sailors’ handicrafts, scale models, jewellery, knitwear, table runners, towels, rag rugs, woven textiles and ceramics. Käsityöpuar is open Wed–Sun from 10 am to 4 pm (until 23 August).
Ingrid Biese’s summer exhibition on Iso-Vehanen Island: The World Can Be A Beautiful Place. Strandstugan can be reached by boat. Boats can be moored at the jetty west of Naskalviikki on Iso-Vehanen Island. First follow the line formed by two white boards from the green Rantakari navigation marker, then continue through the middle of the bay towards the jetty. From the jetty, it is approximately a 200-metre walk to the gallery. The exhibition is open around the clock until 14 August.

Museums

Bonk

Bonk Museum and Children’s Invention Workshop (Siltakatu 2). The Bonk Museum presents the fascinating and humorous world of the fictional industrial empire Bonk Business Inc. The exhibition features a variety of unusual Bonk devices, including non-functional machinery and imaginative inventions dating from the 19th century to the 1950s. Bonk is a fantasy concept
created by artist Alvar Gullichsen, complete with an elaborate fictional company history. Bonk is open Sat–Sun from 10 am to 3 pm. bonkcentre.fi
Wahlberg’s Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11), open Mon–Fri from 10 am to 5 pm and Sat–Sun from 11 am to 4 pm.
The courtyard building also houses a shoemaker’s workshop and a play area for children.
Uusikaupunki Automobile Museum (Autotehtaankatu 11), open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. The Automobile Museum is one of Finland’s most notable car museums and one of Uusikaupunki’s most popular year-round attractions. Its three exhibition halls showcase classics of automotive history, the story of the Finnish automotive industry and unique special exhibitions. Highlights of the collection include Korvensuu from 1913, the first car built in Finland, as well as an extensive collection of Saab cars.

Well-being, Outdoor Activities and Exercise

Walking and strength training on the Kuntoputki fitness trail on Mon 10 August from 1 to 2 pm. The session starts by the Pohitulli outdoor gym equipment. After warming up, participants walk or Nordic walk around the Kuntoputki fitness trail. Between each round, strength exercises are performed using the outdoor gym equipment. Free of charge.
Stair workout at Wintteri fitness stairs (high intensity) on Mon 10 August from 5 to 6 pm, Viikaistenkatu 3. Stair training is an effective way to build leg strength, improve endurance and increase aerobic capacity. Everyone is welcome, and the exercises can be adapted to suit different fitness levels. Free of charge.
Stair workout at Wintteri fitness stairs (light, no jumping) on Tue 11 August from 1 to 1.30 pm, Viikaistenkatu 3. Free of charge.
Outdoor exercise at Myllymäki Park on Tue 11 August from 3 to 4 pm. The session includes a warm-up, strength exercises and stretching at the end. Everyone can exercise at their own pace and according to their fitness level. Most exercises are performed standing, but some are also done on a mat. Please bring your own exercise mat. Free of charge.
Kettlebell + cardio workout on Tue 11 August from 5 to 6 pm at the Pohitulli artificial turf field. A high-intensity workout combining a variety of kettlebell exercises with running-based cardio intervals. Please bring your own kettlebell(s). Free of charge.
Circuit training (light) on Wed 12 August from 1 to 2 pm at the Pohitulli outdoor gym.
Circuit training (high intensity) on Wed 12 August from 5 to 6 pm. The outdoor circuit training takes place using the Pohitulli outdoor gym equipment. The workout consists of several rounds, with exercises performed consecutively without a dedicated break, apart from the time needed to move between stations. After each round, there is a short break before starting the next one. Both circuit training sessions are free of charge.
Saaristoseikkailu Park Golf weekly competitions on Wed 12 and 19 August at 7 pm, Aittaranta 16. Gather a team of 3–4 people and join the competition! The fee is €30/team. Registration takes place on site 15 minutes before the competition begins. Prizes will be awarded to the best teams. Competitions are held every Wednesday until the end of August.
Hybrid Training on Thu 13 August at 5 pm. This 75-minute workout combines heart-pumping cardio with strength training for an effective full-body session. The workout also includes longer running intervals. You can bring your own kettlebell. The session takes place at the Pohitulli artificial turf field and is free of charge.
Outdoor yoga at Myllymäki Park on Thu 13 August from 6 to 7 pm. Bring your own water bottle and exercise/yoga mat. You can also bring a blanket for the final relaxation. Single session €11, payable by cash, card or Finnish employee exercise benefits. The class is instructed by Satu Ajanko.

Kasarminlahti Trail. The marked trail starts from the Sports Field car park at Etelälinjakatu 2. The accessible section starts at Kasarminlahdentie 8. From the birdwatching platform, you can continue along a more challenging trail to the Kasarminlahti lean-to shelter or the Vionpuhti campfire site.
Pamprinniemi Nature Trail, Hauintie 259, Pyhämaa. The approximately 4-km nature trail is located in Ketteli, Pyhämaa, on land owned by the parish.
Oinassaari Lean-to Shelter, Oinassaarentie 166. Oinassaari is a great destination for a day trip by car, boat or bicycle. The shelter is located on Korsaari Island, approximately 18 km from the centre of Uusikaupunki in the direction of Lepäinen.
