Puupaatei Pakkahuoneel & Möljä Miittinki

Saturday, 8 August 2026, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Puupaatei Pakkahuoneel & Möljä Miittinki once again brings together enthusiasts of wooden boats and hobby vehicles along the shores of Kaupunginlahti Bay. This year's theme is "When the Law Forbade, the Archipelago Transported", exploring the fascinating history of the Prohibition era and smuggling in the Finnish archipelago.

At 11:00 AM, Matti Kasari will take visitors into the world of smuggling on the Bothnian Sea with his presentation "Illegal Cargo and Dark Nights: Liquor Smuggling on the Bothnian Sea." Later in the afternoon, at 3:00 PM, another presentation will showcase historic photographs and offer a glimpse into leisure boating in Uusikaupunki during the 1920s and 1930s.

Visitors can view historical artifacts as well as an authentic local smuggling boat that was once used in real operations. During the day, the former Soviet whaling trawler Suukko II will also host performances of the musical theatre production Dark Cargo.

The event features hobby vehicles, vintage boats, wooden boats, sailing ships, rescue vessels, and a variety of other maritime craft. Children can enjoy their own boat-building workshop and a toy boat exhibition.

The programme also includes guided walking tours, community singing, accordion music, maritime-themed lectures, traditional wooden boat cruises, live music performances, a historic deep-sea diver dressing demonstration, and the opportunity to visit the YLE100 Bus. In addition, a water taxi will operate on Kaupunginlahti Bay on a Hop On-Hop Off basis.

The day's festivities will culminate in a spectacular parade of hobby vehicles.

Throughout the event, the Pakkahuone area will be filled with exhibitors offering handicrafts, home décor items, and displays from boating and archipelago associations showcasing their activities. The event will be hosted by Ville Laaksonen.

For more information, visit the Puupaatei Pakkahuoneel & Möljä Miittinki website and the event's Facebook pages.
