Summer Finale Week, August 24-31, 2026

The last week of August is filled with history, culture and art. Highlights include the unveiling of a monument honouring the local stone industry, several wonderful art exhibitions and the Southwest Finland Museum Day.

On Saturday, the summer season culminates in the traditional Venetian Festival. The day begins with the summer’s final themed market, the Venetian Market, and the festivities continue into the evening along the shores of the Bay of Uusikaupunki. A spectacular fireworks display brings the season’s closing celebrations to a dazzling finale.👇🎇✨🎉🎇🎇

• The library (Alinenkatu 34) is celebrating Spidey Week, featuring four Spider-Man films. All films are rated 12 and over. Spider-Man on Mon 24 August at 3 pm, The Amazing Spider-Man on Wed 26 August at 3 pm, Spider-Man: Homecoming on Thu 27 August at 3 pm, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Fri 28 August at 3 pm. Admission is free.

• Riemumäki Summer Café is open Fri–Sat from 2 to 8 pm and Sun from 12 noon to 6 pm at Pyhämaanraitti 88, Pyhämaa. The café serves a selection of sweet and savoury treats. The site also offers summer accommodation, an outdoor gym and a water slide, which is open during the café’s opening hours.

  • Bingo at Pakkahuone on Fri 28 August from 4 to 6 pm, Pakkahuoneentori 1. Free bingo with great prizes and, weather permitting, a bouncy castle for children.
  • August Evening at Päivranta on Fri 28 August from 6 to 8 pm, Raulio Beach, Pyhämaantie 300. The programme includes target throwing and a prize draw. The tent sauna will be heated, and Päivi Kurkilahti will perform and lead a sing-along from 6 to 7 pm. Refreshments will be available from the buffet.
  • Southwest Finland Museum Day on Sun 30 August from 11 am to 4 pm. Admission to the Kalanti Local Heritage Museum (Kuriirikuja 1) and the Wahlberg Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11) is free during the event.

Unveiling Ceremony of the Uusikaupunki Stone Industry Memorial

The Uusikaupunki Stone Industry Memorial will be unveiled on Thursday, 27 August at 5.30 pm, to the west of the Pakkahuone waterfront car park. The memorial was designed by sculptor Jarkko Roth.

Known as “Uusikaupunki Grey”, the granite quarried in the Uusikaupunki archipelago was used in the construction of several notable buildings, including the National Museum of Finland in Helsinki. Stone from the island of Lepäinen was exported throughout Europe and as far as the United States. During the Second World War, the quarries also supplied so-called “Hitler stones” for building projects in Nazi Germany.

Stone quarrying began in the area in the early 20th century and reached its peak in the 1930s, when more than ten companies operated in the archipelago.

Venetian Festival

The Venetian Festival is celebrated on the last Saturday of August with a varied programme. The day begins with the Tul toril – Venetian Market, while the evening continues amid the atmospheric waterfront scenery of Kaupunginlahti, at Pakkahuone and in local restaurants. During the day, you can also join the guided Road to the Peace of Uusikaupunki walking tour.

The end-of-summer celebrations culminate in a spectacular fireworks display over Kaupunginlahti at around 10 pm. The event and fireworks display are organised in cooperation with Bistro Bay, Restaurant Luode, Pakkahuone Café and Guest Harbour, Vakka-Suomen Puhelin Oy and Visit Uusikaupunki.

Live music and other entertainment will be available at venues around the city throughout the evening. Nico Koppe will perform at Santtioranta (Kalalokkikuja 14) from 5 to 8 pm. At Bistro Bay, Ukibiza gets the party started at 6 pm and continues into the early hours, with FAIJA, also known as Aaron Martikainen, taking the stage at 11 pm.

Akusti will perform at Pakkahuone at 8 pm. After the fireworks at 10 pm, head across Kaupunginlahti to Restaurant Wiku, where Dr. Doctor will take the stage, or to Restaurant Luode, where the party continues with “almost Dinturist”. Although the full line-up cannot make it, a great party is still guaranteed!

Tul Toril – Venetian Market on Sat 29 August from 10 am to 1 pm offers plenty of entertainment for the whole family!

The opening of the Kalanti Solar Park will be celebrated during the event, with energy company Helen offering everyone free coffee and ice cream. Children can enjoy free motorcycle rides with members of a local motorcycle club, while the youngest visitors will be entertained by Täti Tättähäärä with songs and games. A colourful samba parade will also make its way along Alinenkatu to the market square, starting at 11 am. After the samba performance, Duo Metsäpirtti will provide live music on the market stage.

Exhibitions

• Runonkulma Gallery and Pikkukylä Shop (Ylinenkatu 38B). Small but Significant, an exhibition of graphic art by Ann-Sofi Kattilakoski, is on display at the gallery. Pikkukylä Shop offers a wide selection of Finnish handicrafts, design items and art. Open Wed from 11 am to 7 pm, Thu–Fri from 11 am to 5 pm and Sat from 11 am to 3 pm.
• Tupsula – an exhibition of thousands of pompoms, and Päivi Virkkunen’s exhibition A Night in the Garden (Alinenkatu 24). Open Tue and Thu from 1 to 5 pm and Sat from 10 am to 2 pm. This summer, the team at Tupsula has also created an impressive boat from crocheted pompoms, which is on display by the Pakkahuone waterfront. Tupsula closes for the season on 29 August, with coffee and cake served to mark the occasion.
• Cultural Centre Cruselli – Our Isokari: Art with a Taste of the Sea, an exhibition by the Kustavi Art Association (Kullervontie 11A). Open Tue–Wed and Fri from 10 am to 4 pm and Thu from 10 am to 6 pm.
• Gallery Horisontti (Alinenkatu 24). Works by Kirsti Lennon are on display in the main gallery, while the studio hosts a memorial exhibition dedicated to Lotta Rosendahl. Open Wed–Fri from 12 noon to 3 pm and Sat from 10 am to 1 pm.
• Blankets and Clothing – Made in Uusikaupunki, Wahlberg Museum House, Ylinenkatu 11. Uusikaupunki’s textile industry flourished particularly from the 1940s to the 1960s and employed many women, although the city’s first textile factory had already been established in 1919. The largest company in the sector, Uudenkaupungin villatavaratehdas, later known as Uuvi Oy, operated until 1987. More than ten other textile companies also operated in the city, producing fabrics, socks, clothing and other products. The exhibition explores the history of these companies and shares the stories of people who worked in the industry. Open Mon–Fri from 10 am to 5 pm and Sat–Sun from 11 am to 4 pm. • Scale Model Exhibition (Kylähiidentie 55, Kalanti), open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. The exhibition features around 80 scale models of objects from the past, including cars, aircraft, motorcycles and ships, as well as Tutankhamun’s tomb in miniature and Keke Rosberg’s Formula One World Championship-winning car. Admission: €5 for adults and €3 for children.
• Uusikaupunki Library, Gallery Kirjava: Tiia Kopsa – Moments in Nature (Alinenkatu 34). The library is open Mon–Thu from 10 am to 6 pm, Fri from 10 am to 5 pm and Sat from 10 am to 2 pm. Respectfully restored, the main library combines a historic setting with modern library services and is well worth a visit in its own right.
• Pakkahuone Café: Tommi Flankkila – Moments Gone By (Pakkahuoneentori 1). Open daily from 8 am to 8 pm.
• 50th Anniversary Exhibition of the Vakka-Suomi Art Association at the glass pavilion in the market square.
   

Museums

• Bonk Museum and Children’s Invention Workshop (Siltakatu 2). The Bonk Museum introduces visitors to the bewildering and humorous world of the fictional industrial empire Bonk Business Inc. Its exhibits include unusual Bonk devices, such as non-functioning machinery and imaginative inventions dating from the 19th century to the 1950s. Bonk is a fantasy concept created by artist Alvar Gullichsen, complete with an elaborate fictional corporate history. • Wahlberg Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11), open Mon–Fri from 10 am to 5 pm and Sat–Sun from 11 am to 4 pm. The courtyard building also houses a traditional shoemaker’s workshop and a children’s play area. Please note: admission is free on Sun 30 August for Southwest Finland Museum Day.
• Uusikaupunki Automobile Museum (Autotehtaankatu 11), open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. One of Finland’s leading automobile museums, it is also among the city’s most popular year-round attractions. Its three exhibition halls showcase classics of automotive history, the story of the Finnish automotive industry and fascinating special exhibitions. Highlights include Korvensuu, the first car built in Finland, dating from 1913, and an extensive collection of Saab cars.

Well-being, Outdoor Activities and Exercise

• Stair workout at Wintteri’s fitness stairs (a light, low-impact class with no jumping) on Mon 24 August from 4.15 to 5 pm, Viikaistenkatu 3. Free of charge.
• Hybrid Training on Mon 24 August from 5.30 to 6.30 pm at Wintteri’s athletics area, Pohjoistullitie 3. This varied and effective workout alternates between cardio intervals that raise your heart rate and exercises that build muscular strength. The class challenges both endurance and strength and also includes longer running sections. You may bring your own kettlebell or kettlebells if you wish. Class fee: €6.50.
• Fitness Boxing on Mon 24 August from 6 to 7 pm in Wintteri’s martial arts studio, Pohjoistullitie 3. Fitness boxing is a fast-paced, effective full-body workout that improves fitness, coordination and muscular endurance. The class includes a variety of boxing techniques practised with focus mitts and punch bags. It is best suited to those already familiar with basic boxing punches, but beginners are also warmly welcome. Class fee: €6.50.
• Circuit Training on Tue 25 August from 3 to 4 pm at Wintteri’s athletics area, Pohjoistullitie 3. The exercises are completed as a circuit without scheduled breaks, apart from the time needed to move between stations. After each circuit, there is a short break before the next round begins. Class fee: €6.50.

• Sweat Workout on Tue 25 August from 5.30 to 6.30 pm at Wintteri’s athletics area, Pohjoistullitie 3. An effective functional workout combining muscular strength, mobility and cardio exercises with various running and jumping intervals. Class fee: €6.50.
• Saaristoseikkailu Park Golf Weekly Competition on Wed 26 August at 7 pm, Aittaranta 16. Gather a team of three or four and join the competition. The entry fee is €30 per team. Register on site 15 minutes before the competition begins. Prizes will be awarded to the best teams. This is the final weekly competition of the summer.
• Body Care and Mobility on Thu 27 August from 5 to 6 pm in Wintteri’s group exercise studio, Pohjoistullitie 3. A gentle class featuring a variety of stretches and movement sequences that release tension and improve mobility, helping to prevent problems caused by muscle tightness. The class ends with relaxation. You may bring your own exercise mat and/or blanket. Class fee: €6.50.
• Hybrid Training on Fri 29 August from 5.30 to 6.30 pm at the Pohitulli artificial turf pitch, Koulupolku 5. This varied and effective workout alternates between cardio intervals and strength-building exercises. The class also includes longer running sections. You may bring your own kettlebell if you wish. • Cottage Yoga at Sisula on Fri 28 August at 7 pm, Eräistenkarintie 10. Bring your own yoga mat, blanket and water bottle, and dress appropriately for the weather. M/S Kerttu begins the return journey at 10 pm, offering passengers an opportunity to admire the spectacular traditional bonfires illuminating the archipelago.

• Kasarminlahti Trail. The marked trail begins at the sports ground car park, Etelälinjakatu 2. The accessible section begins at Kasarminlahdentie 8. From the birdwatching platform, you can continue along a more challenging trail to the Kasarminlahti lean-to shelter or the Vionpuhti campfire site.
• Pamprinniemi Nature Trail, Hauintie 259, Pyhämaa. Located on parish-owned land in Ketteli, Pyhämaa, the trail is approximately four kilometres long.
• Oinassaari Lean-to Shelter, Oinassaarentie 166. An enjoyable excursion destination for visitors arriving by car, boat or bicycle. The shelter is located on the island of Korsaari, approximately 18 kilometres from the centre of Uusikaupunki in the direction of Lepäinen.
