Events in Uusikaupunki, 21–27 September 2026

This week’s programme is packed with plenty of things to see and do. Lokalahti hosts both the Vakka-Kekri harvest festival and an Oktoberfest celebration over the weekend. Music lovers are in for a treat with a varied line-up featuring beloved Finnish music legend Pepe Willberg, reggae artist Jukka Poika and Estonian piano virtuoso Johan Randvere.

There are also plenty of options for those looking to get active – from gentle body care and mobility classes to more energetic workouts such as fitness boxing and high-intensity aqua exercise.

Kurpitsat ym

Vakka-Kekri, Fri–Sat 25–26 September, Nopperlan Tila, Nopperlantie 1, Lokalahti.

Vakka-Kekri 2026 is a harvest, local food and countryside event for the whole Vakka-Suomi region. Visitors can enjoy local food, a lively market atmosphere, animals, machinery, demonstrations and authentic rural life.

Friday’s school day is dedicated to local students in grades 7–9, upper secondary school students and vocational students.

On Friday, the Evening Market invites visitors to enjoy the atmosphere of an autumn evening in an authentic rural setting from 3 pm to 7 pm. There will be local food and products, market stalls, music and other programme.

On Saturday, the whole family can discover the many sides of rural life. During the day, visitors can meet local producers and entrepreneurs, shop for seasonal products, watch demonstrations and explore a variety of machinery. Dozens of exhibitors and local organisations will be taking part. The event area is open from 10 am to 6 pm.

oktoberfest

Nopperla Oktoberfest, Sat 26 September at 6 pm, Nopperla Celebration Barn, Nopperlantie 1, Lokalahti.

Oktoberfest once again brings a festive autumn atmosphere to Nopperla’s celebration barn! Expect a fun-filled evening with live music and German-style delicacies. The buffet includes pork knuckle served with cognac mustard and German speciality sausages – and, of course, cold beer in true Oktoberfest style.

Entertainment for the evening: Hired Gun at 8 pm, Timo Kotipelto Duo at 10 pm and Dinturist at 11.30 pm, with DJ Jarkko also keeping the party going.

Concerts

Johan Randvere

Johan Randvere – Piano Concert, Tue 22 September at 6 pm, Crusell Hall, Kullervontie 11.

Charismatic and versatile Johan Randvere is one of the brightest stars of Estonia’s younger generation of pianists. The award-winning pianist performs actively around the world and has appeared at venues including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. In his native Estonia, Randvere is also known as a television and radio presenter.

The concert is organised in cooperation with the Tuglas Society. Admission is free.

 

Jukka Poika

Jukka Poika & DJ Stormy, Fri 25 September at 6 pm, Crusell Hall, Kullervontie 11.

After launching his solo career from Soul Captain Band, Jukka Poika has become one of the leading names in Finnish reggae and is known for hits such as Silkkii, Älä tyri nyt, Mielihyvää and Kylmästä lämpimään. This year, Jukka Poika released his first album in ten years. The first single from his comeback album, Stand Back, has gained popularity on both TikTok and Spotify. At live shows, Jukka Poika performs with his long-time collaborator DJ Stormy.

Pepe Willberg

Elämältä kaiken sain – Pepe Willberg 80th Anniversary Concert, Sat 26 September at 6 pm, Wintteri, Pohjoistullitie 3.

Pepe Willberg celebrates his 80th birthday with a major anniversary concert tour, which also comes to the Uusikaupunki Arena at Wintteri. The evening will feature some of his most beloved hits from across the decades, along with stories from the different stages of his long career. Audiences can look forward to a warm and memorable evening of music with one of Finland’s most highly regarded artists.

  • Vie vanhus ulos – Take an Older Person Outdoors campaign week (21–25 September) offers seniors a wide range of free activities around the city, including exercise, culture, opportunities to spend time together and other enjoyable activities. See the full programme in the event calendar.
  • Read to a Pet – Vakka-Suomen karvakaverit Tue 22 September from 5 pm to 6 pm, Main Library, Alinenkatu 34. Two canine listeners will be present at each session, and you can read them picture books, storybooks or even non-fiction. Each reading session lasts approximately 5–10 minutes, and readers are welcomed in order of arrival.
  • Hetki ennen valoa Wed 23 September at 4 pm and Presidentin kyyditys at 5.45 pm, Kuvala Cinema, Alinenkatu 16.

  • Storytime Thu 24 September at 9.30 am, Kalanti Library, Pankkitie 2. During storytime, picture books related to different themes are read aloud. Children under the age of 2 should attend with a parent or caregiver.
  • Ansa and Tauno’s Puppet Theatre Couplet Thu 24 September at 11 am, Main Library, Alinenkatu 34. To celebrate the Vie vanhus ulos campaign, Uusikaupunki Library offers a special cultural treat. At 11 am, Ansa and Tauno’s Puppet Theatre Couplet will be performed, followed at 11.20 am by A Moment of Stories by Rosa Liksom. Seating is limited. You can reserve a seat in advance at the library or by calling 050 569 1121.
  • Buster Pike Meet on Sat 26 September from 9 am. The event centre is Cafe Aitta. This relaxed fishing event takes place in the waters around Uusikaupunki, with a Buster aluminium boat as the grand prize. The result is determined by the total length of the boat team’s five pike. Boats leave the shore at 9.30 am, and the competition runs from 10 am to 4 pm. Boats must return by 4.30 pm, and the prize ceremony begins at 5 pm. More information: buster.fi

Every Saturday from 10 pm, Bistro Bay transforms into kluBBen – a laid-back club night where you can enjoy the music, have fun and unwind in a relaxed atmosphere. Around midnight, the lights are dimmed, the disco ball starts spinning and the night really gets going.

 Uusi kirkko

New Church, Rauhankatu 3.
Open on Thursdays from 4 pm to 6 pm. In the chancel area, you will find a prayer altar and a mission candle stand, where you can light a taper or candle if you wish. The Gothic-style church was completed in 1865 and designed by architect Georg von Chiewitz. Free admission.

Exhibitions

  • Blankets and Clothes – Made in Uusikaupunki exhibition, Wahlberg’s Museum House, Ylinenkatu 11.
    Uusikaupunki’s textile industry flourished particularly from the 1940s to the 1960s and employed many women, although the first factory had already been established in 1919. The most significant company in the industry, Uudenkaupungin 
    villatavaratehdas (later Uuvi Oy), operated until 1987. The town was also home to more than ten other textile companies 
    producing fabrics, socks, clothing and other products. The exhibition explores the history of these companies and gives a voice to the people who worked in the industry. The exhibition is open Tue–Fri from 12 noon to 3 pm.

  • Pakkahuone Café: Tommi Flankkila’s exhibition Menneitä hetkiä (Moments Gone By). The works are on display in the café’s exhibition space. Open daily from 8 am to 8 pm. (Pakkahuoneentori 1).
  • Cultural Centre Cruselli – Veera Ruohomäki’s exhibition Unikuvia (Dream Images).
    Cruselli is open Tue–Wed and Fri from 10 am to 4 pm and Thu from 10 am to 6 pm. (Kullervontie 11A).
  • Runonkulma Gallery and Pikkukylän Puoti (Ylinenkatu 38B). Pikkukylän Puoti offers a good selection of Finnish handicrafts, design products and art. The gallery and shop are open Wed from 11 am to 7 pm, Thu–Fri from 11 am to 5 pm and Sat from 11 am to 3 pm.
  • Gallery Horisontti – Kyösti Hallikainen’s exhibition Värit (Colours), while the studio features the latest works by members of the local art society until the end of September. Open Wed–Fri from 12 noon to 3 pm and Sat from 10 am to 1 pm. (Alinenkatu 24).
  • Scale Model Exhibition (Kylähiidentie 55, Kalanti). The exhibition features around 80 miniature models of objects from the past, including cars, aeroplanes, motorcycles and ships, as well as a miniature version of Tutankhamun’s tomb and Keke Rosberg’s World Championship-winning car.   • Uusikaupunki Library, Gallery Kirjava: Elisa Haapasalo’s exhibition, featuring nature-themed watercolours. The library is exceptionally open Mon–Thu from 10 am to 6 pm this week. (Alinenkatu 34). The exhibition is open until 24 September.
    The beautifully renovated Main Library, where the building’s historic character has been carefully preserved, is well worth a visit in its own right.
  • Kalanti Library, Raimon Kammari: Uusikaupunki Art Society’s exhibition Näetkö näin? (Do You See It This Way?) Throughout September, works by Hiltu Sallinen, Heli Sammalisto, Valto Vaalikivi, Seija Itäranta, Tiina Kuusikoski and Kirsti Lennon are on display.
    The library is open Tue from 1 pm to 7 pm and Wed–Thu from 10 am to 4 pm. Closed this Friday. (Pankkitie 2, Kalanti).

Museums

  • Uusikaupunki Automobile Museum (Autotehtaankatu 11), open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. The Automobile Museum is one of Finland’s most notable car museums and one of Uusikaupunki’s most popular year-round attractions. Its three exhibition halls showcase classics from automotive history, the story of the Finnish automotive industry and unique special exhibitions. Highlights of the collection include the first car manufactured in Finland, the Korvensuu from 1913, as well as an extensive collection of Saab cars.
  • Wahlberg’s Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11), open Tue–Fri from 12 noon to 3 pm. On the ground floor of the impressive former home of Fredrik Wahlberg, founder of the Uusikaupunki tobacco factory, visitors can discover what life was like in a wealthy bourgeois home during the golden age of seafaring. The upper floor presents the city’s maritime history, from sailing ships and seafaring to more recent shipbuilding and shipyard activities.

Exercise, outdoor activities and well-being

  • Water aerobics for seniors every Monday and Wednesday from 3 pm to 3.45 pm, Swimming Hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. A basic water aerobics class open to everyone and particularly aimed at seniors. The class includes aerobic exercise, muscle-strengthening exercises and stretching at the end. Various aqua fitness equipment is also used from time to time. No advance booking required.
    Swimming fee + instructor fee €3.50.
  • Shoulders, back & abs every Monday from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm, Wintteri group exercise studio, Pohjoistullitie 3. An easy and effective basic workout without step combinations or jumping. The class includes a warm-up, a varied muscle-strengthening section and stretching. With a particular focus on the back, shoulders and abdominal muscles, the class is suitable for everyone, especially those with sedentary jobs.
    Instructor fee €6.50.
  • Aqua circuit training on Mondays from 6 pm to 6.45 pm, Swimming Hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. An effective circuit workout in the water that raises your heart rate and improves overall fitness. Various aqua fitness equipment is used during the workout. The class ends with a short stretching session. No advance booking required. Swimming fee + instructor fee €3.50.
  • Fitness boxing on Mondays from 6 pm to 7 pm, Wintteri martial arts hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. Fitness boxing is an effective and versatile form of exercise suitable for everyone. The class includes technique practice with focus mitts and punching bags as well as exercises to improve muscular and aerobic fitness. There is no contact to the head or hard body contact. Please note that shoes are not worn in the martial arts hall. Instructor fee €6.50.
  • Seated Asahi Tue 22 September at 10 am, Sakunkulma, Zachariasseninkatu 1. Gentle movement sequences help loosen and relax the whole body, with a particular focus on the neck, shoulders and back, while also improving balance. Asahi is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Free of charge.
  • Fitness class every Tuesday from 1 pm to 2 pm, Wintteri group exercise studio, Pohjoistullitie 3. An easy functional workout particularly suited to older adults, but suitable for all ages. The exercises vary from circuit training to a workout of the day and make versatile use of equipment and body weight. No jumping. Instructor fee €6.50.
  • High-intensity workout on Tuesdays from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm, Wintteri athletics area, Pohjoistullitie 3. An effective and varied functional workout combining mobility, muscle-strengthening and cardio exercises, as well as jumping and running. Instructor fee €6.50.
  • High-intensity aqua aerobics on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 6.45 pm, and also on Thursdays from 7 pm to 7.45 pm, Swimming Hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. An energetic aqua aerobics class where you can exercise according to your own fitness level and how you feel. Instructors are Susanna Aulin-Uusikartano (Happy Feeling) or Tiina Aulin (Toiminta & Kyky). No advance registration required. Swimming fee + instructor fee €6.
  • Adapted gym workout on Wednesdays from 10 am to 11 am, Wintteri, Pohjoistullitie 3. An adapted gym workout for people who find it challenging to participate in general exercise groups. The class includes a warm-up, independent gym training and stretching at the end. An instructor is available to assist throughout the class. Participants requiring special support should bring their own assistant. Free of charge.
  • Strength and balance group on Wednesdays from 11 am to 11.45 am, Wintteri Uusikaupunki Arena, Pohjoistullitie 3. An accessible exercise group designed to maintain and improve functional ability. The class focuses on muscle strength, mobility and balance using body weight and various equipment. Exercises can be adapted to each participant’s functional ability, and the use of mobility aids is no barrier to participation. Free of charge.
  • Open supervised gym session on Wednesdays from 1 pm to 2 pm, Wintteri, Pohjoistullitie 3. Supervised gym training with an instructor available to assist with equipment and exercises. The session includes a short warm-up, independent gym training and stretching at the end. Gym admission fee applies; no instructor fee.
  • Power 45 aqua aerobics on Wednesdays at 6 pm, Swimming Hall, Pohjoistullitie 3. An energetic water aerobics class set to music. The class includes heart-rate-raising aerobic exercise, muscle-strengthening exercises and a short stretching session at the end. Various aqua fitness equipment is also used from time to time. No advance booking required. Swimming fee + instructor fee €3.50.
  • Social dance course on Thursdays from 6 pm to 9 pm, Työväentalo, Ylinenkatu 12. Finnish social dancing is a fun and effective form of exercise suitable for everyone. The classes are pay-as-you-go, so you can attend whenever it suits you best, with no advance registration or commitment to a long course period. You can come alone, with a partner or with a group of friends. Changing partners during the classes is optional, so you can dance with your own partner throughout the class if you wish.   • Your Autumn – a day of well-being Sat 26 September from 10 am, Päiväranta Aurinkosali, Vanhatie 405. Come and enjoy a relaxing day in an atmospheric old log schoolhouse and find strength, energy and balance for the autumn.   • Public skating on Sundays from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm, Ice Hall, Koulupolku 1. Public skating is an ice session open to all skaters and costs €2/person. Check the latest information on the Jää-Kotkat website.
  • Kattilvesi route Sun 27 September from 11 am to 3 pm. An approximately 10 km checkpoint route that can be completed on foot or by bicycle. Start between 11 am and 1 pm from either Kaukan Kyläkoti (Kaukanraitti 24) or Raulio Mill (Rauliontie 50). You will receive a checkpoint card and route instructions at the starting point. Participation is free. At Kaukan Kyläkoti, participants can enjoy a free soup lunch from 11.30 am, while Raulio Mill offers coffee, tea and juice, as well as a bouncy castle for children. A gift card will be raffled among the returned checkpoint cards at both finish points.
  • Lokalahti Nature Day Sun 27 September from 1 pm to 2.30 pm, Palomäentie 33. The programme includes a guided nature trail walk for the whole family along the fitness trail. Representatives of the Uusikaupunki Region Environmental Association will talk about the nature survey carried out in the area, its findings and the birdhouses installed there. The Lokalahti Nature mobile guide will also be launched at the event, and juice will be available for participants. Parking space by the fitness trail is limited. Additional parking is available, for example, in front of Lokalahti Church (Palomäentie 18), approximately 300–400 metres’ walk from the start of the fitness trail.

From the birdwatching platform, you can continue beyond the accessible section along a more demanding trail to the Kasarminlahti lean-to shelter or the Vionpuhti campfire site.
  • Pamprinniemi Nature Trail, Hauintie 259, Pyhämaa. The Pamprinniemi Nature Trail is located in Ketteli, Pyhämaa, on land owned by the parish, and is approximately 4 km long.
  • Oinassaari lean-to shelter, Oinassaarentie 166. The Oinassaari lean-to shelter is a pleasant excursion destination for visitors arriving by car, boat or bicycle. It is located on Korsaari Island, approximately 18 km from the centre of Uusikaupunki in the direction of Lepäinen.
