Stories of the Bay – Guided Walking Tour takes you on a journey through Uusikaupunki’s maritime history and the lives of its notable figures, while the Ghost Tours lead you into a world of intriguing local legends and the darker side of Uusikaupunki. Dare to join?

Karavaanari

In Uusikaupunki Theatre’s comedy Karavaanari – kaikkien kaveri, actor Mikko Aarnela accidentally witnesses a murder and is forced to escape with a group of caravan enthusiasts. What follows is a hilarious adventure full of misunderstandings, surprises and light-hearted humour. The close-knit caravan community adds its own twist to the journey. The caravan is on the move – will you join the ride? The play is performed in Finnish.

Cruselli

October’s cultural programme invites you to enjoy fascinating stories, memorable music and the magic of dance. A maritime evening explores current issues affecting the Baltic Sea, poetry and songs reflect on life’s changes, and an evening of dance brings movement and art together. The month’s programme also features an acoustic concert by Finnish singer Irina.

- October Maritime Evening – Thu 15 October at 6 pm. Guest speaker Jessica Haapkylä will give a lecture titled An Overview of the State of the Baltic Sea. Organised jointly by the Uusikaupunki Maritime Historical Association and Vakka Adult Education Centre, these maritime lectures are open to everyone. Free admission. Lecture is in Finnish.

- Eila Saarva & Päivi Kurkilahti: Muutosten mutkissa – A Moment of Poetry and Song – Fri 16 October at 6 pm. This 
performance explores life’s transitions and turning points, from youth to adulthood and later stages of life. Through poetry and songs, it reflects on change, emotions and new possibilities with warmth, sensitivity and a touch of humour. The programme 
features works by Tommy Tabermann, Kyllikki Villa, Hector, Ellinoora and Eppu Normaali, among others. Performance is in Finnish.

- An Evening of Dance and Art – Sat 17 October at 7 pm. The evening features two performances: Eläväksi liikutettu runo and Words with Isadora. The first combines dance, music and poetry, exploring the connections between movement, language and sound. Words with Isadora reflects on the evolution of artistic expression and freedom of movement, drawing inspiration from the ideas of dance pioneer Isadora Duncan. The performance Words with Isadora is in English.

- Irina – An Acoustic Evening – Fri 23 October at 7 pm. One of Finland’s leading artists for over two decades, Irina brings her best-loved hits to the concert stage in fresh acoustic arrangements. She is joined by accordionist Niko Kumpuvaara and multi-instrumentalist Joakim “Jusu” Berghäll. The programme includes familiar favourites as well as rarely performed gems. Songs are in Finnish.

There’s plenty going on this autumn! Enjoy storytime and furry friends at the libraries, while the weekends offer everything from flea markets and basketball to live music and delicious food. As October draws to a close, Halloween spirit begins to take over, bringing a little spooky excitement to the autumn days.

- Vehicle Inspection Station for Children’s Ride-On Toys – Tue 13 October, 4–7 pm, Kalanti Library, Pankkitie 2. Has your favourite ride-on toy had its annual inspection yet? No worries – bring it to the library for a check-up! Anything you can ride or steer is welcome. Free admission.

- Storytime – Thu 15 October at 9.30 am, Main Library, Alinenkatu 34. Enjoy picture books based on different themes. Children under 2 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Storytime is in Finnish.

- Favourite Book Recommendations – Thu 15 October, 4.30–6 pm, Main Library, Alinenkatu 34. Librarian Lauri Seutu shares his favourite books for children, young people and adults, offering inspiring reading tips for all ages. The floor is also open to anyone who would like to share their own book recommendations or simply try speaking in front of an audience in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Juice and biscuits will be served. The event is in Finnish.

- Food & Wine Evening – Fri 16 October from 6 pm, Restaurant Luode, Aittaranta 8. Enjoy a delicious four-course menu accompanied by wines presented by Bodegio Wines expert Juha Niinisaari, who will introduce the evening’s selections and share his knowledge. - Read to a Pet – Vakka-Suomen Karvakaverit – Tue 20 October, 5–6 pm, Main Library, Alinenkatu 34. Two friendly listening dogs will be there for children to read to. You can choose picture books, storybooks or even non-fiction books. Each reading session lasts approximately 5–10 minutes, and participants are welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis.

- Pumpkin Festival – Fri 23 October, 5–10 pm, Nopperla Farm, Nopperlantie 1, Lokalahti. Celebrate autumn at this family-friendly pumpkin carnival! The free event offers something for all ages, including a café, candy truck, food tent, waffle café and pumpkin sales. Antique shop Klaara and visiting vendors will also be there. The park will be decorated for the occasion, and families can 
enjoy a disco in the event area. Free admission.

- A Moment Before Winter Time – Winter Season Opening at Pikkukylän Puoti and Runonkulma Gallery – Sat 24 October, 10 am–4 pm, Ylinenkatu 38B. The event features visiting entrepreneurs and artists, including BMS-Healing, Tea Laurell Design, Tiinataitaa and visual artist Jenny Vuorela. There will also be mulled wine tastings and face painting.

- MLL Halloween Disco – Sat 24 October, 2–4 pm, Pohitulli Sports Hall. Enjoy a bouncy castle, delicious buffet, pumpkin raffle, photo wall and plenty of other fun activities. Lively music will keep the party going! Scary, funny or Halloween-themed costumes are more than welcome. Admission €2.

- Halloween Dance Party & Karjurock’s 20th Anniversary Kick-Off – Sat 24 October, 7 pm–2 am, Nopperla Farm, Nopperlantie 1, Lokalahti. The celebrations for Karjurock’s 20th anniversary begin with a Halloween dance party! Finnish band Yölintu will take the stage, with music also provided by DJ Jarkko. Another performer will be announced later. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster. Age limit: 18+.

Keilarata

Autumn Holiday Activities for Young People, 12–16 October

During the autumn holiday week, young people can enjoy a variety of activities, from crafts and sweet treats to a trip to SuperPark and bowling.

On Monday 12 October, from 1–4 pm, a DIY-themed youth club session will be held for young people in grades 7–9 and up to age 17. Participants can design and decorate their own travel mugs. The youth club will also be open as usual from 5–8 pm.

On Tuesday 13 October, there will be a trip to SuperPark for young people in grade 5 and above. (Fully booked.)

On Wednesday 14 October, from 6–10 pm, a Late-Night Youth Club session will be held for young people in grade 7 and above.

On Thursday 15 October, from 5–8 pm, it's time for a Chocolate-Themed Youth Club session for young people in grade 7 and up to age 17. The evening will be filled with chocolate tasting, guessing games, competitions, dipping treats in chocolate and, of course, plenty of delicious chocolate!

The autumn holiday week wraps up on Friday 16 October with bowling from 2–4 pm. The activity is open to young people in grade 5 and above. Registration closes on 14 October.

 Uusi kirkko

Uusikaupunki New Church (Rauhankatu 3) is open on Thursdays from 4–6 pm. In the chancel, you’ll find a prayer altar and a candle stand, where you can light a candle if you wish. The Gothic-style church was completed in 1865 and designed by architect Georg von Chiewitz. Free admission.

 

Uuvin pihalla

Art and history lovers will find plenty of interesting things to explore around Uusikaupunki. Discover the history of the local textile industry, visit art exhibitions and galleries, or admire miniature models of objects from the past. The exhibitions offer a fascinating mix of local history, contemporary art and vibrant colours.

- Blankets and Clothes – Made in Uusikaupunki Exhibition, Wahlberg’s Museum House, Ylinenkatu 11. Uusikaupunki’s textile industry flourished particularly in the 1940s–1960s, employing large numbers of women, although the first factory had already been established in 1919. The town’s most significant textile company, Uudenkaupungin villatavaratehdas (later Uuvi Oy), 
operated until 1987. More than ten other textile companies also operated in the town, producing fabrics, socks and clothing, among other products. - Runonkulma Gallery and Pikkukylän Puoti (Ylinenkatu 38B). The gallery features Raimo Mattsson’s exhibition Pintaa syvemmälle (Beneath the Surface). The shop also offers a lovely selection of Finnish handicrafts, design items and art products. Opening hours: Wed 11 am–7 pm, Thu–Fri 11 am–5 pm and Sat 11 am–3 pm.

- Gallery Horisontti (Alinenkatu 24). Kai-Erik Relander’s exhibition Ihmisiä ja heidän tarinansa (People and Their Stories) is on 
display until 7 November. Opening hours: Thu–Fri 12–3 pm and Sat 10 am–1 pm.

- Uusikaupunki Main Library, Gallery Kirjava, Alinenkatu 34. Throughout October, the gallery presents Heli Jalava’s colourful naïve art exhibition Ilon hetkiä (Moments of Joy). Library opening hours: Mon–Thu 10 am–6 pm, Fri 10 am–5 pm and 
Sat 10 am–2 pm.

- Miniature Model Exhibition (Kylähiidentie 55, Kalanti). The exhibition features approximately 80 miniature models of objects from the past, including cars, aeroplanes, motorcycles and ships. Highlights also include a miniature replica of Tutankhamun’s tomb and Keke Rosberg’s Formula One World Championship-winning car. Admission: €5/adult and €3/child. Please confirm

Automuseo
Museum lovers

The Uusikaupunki Automobile Museum, located on Autotehtaankatu, is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. It is one of Finland’s most significant automobile museums and one of Uusikaupunki’s most popular year-round attractions. Across three exhibition halls, visitors can explore classic cars, the history of the Finnish automotive industry and unique special exhibitions. Highlights 
include the first car manufactured in Finland, the Korvensuu from 1913, and an extensive Saab collection.

Wahlberg’s Museum House is located in the heart of Uusikaupunki on Ylinenkatu and it´s open Tuesday to Friday from 12 noon to 3 pm. The impressive former home of Fredrik Wahlberg, founder of the Uusikaupunki tobacco factory, offers a glimpse into the life of a wealthy merchant family during the golden age of sailing ships. Upstairs, sailors’ chests, ship paintings and other historical objects tell the story of Uusikaupunki’s maritime history, from the era of sailing ships to more recent shipbuilding activities.

Please note: During the autumn holiday week (12–18 October), regular instructor-led water aerobics classes will not take place, 
except for the Intensive Aqua Workout (Vesirääkki) sessions, which will run as usual. Land-based fitness classes will also take place as normal.

- Back Health Week – 12–18 October. To celebrate the week, Vakka-Suomen Selkäyhdistys is organising an afternoon of exercise at Wintteri’s Mirror Studio on Tuesday 13 October. A Barre class will take place from 4–4.45 pm, followed by FasciaMethod from 5–5.45 pm. Price: €5 per class.

- Finnish Social Dance Classes – Thursdays, 6–9 pm, Workers’ Hall (Työväentalo), Ylinenkatu 12. Finnish social dancing is a fun and effective way to exercise, suitable for everyone. These pay-as-you-go classes allow you to join whenever it suits you, with no advance registration or commitment to a full course. You can come alone, with a partner or with friends. Changing dance partners is optional, so you can dance with your own partner throughout the class if you prefer. Organised by Tanssiseura Sekahaku.

- Public Ice Skating – During the autumn holiday week (12–18 October), Monday to Friday from 12 noon to 1 pm and Sunday from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm at the Ice Hall, Koulupolku 1. Public skating sessions are open to skaters of all ages and abilities. Admission: €2 per person. Please check the latest information in the website of Jääkotkat.
 

 Metsälehto

In Uusikaupunki, nature and outdoor activities are close at hand all year round. Take a walk along nature trails, head out for a hike to a campfire shelter, or enjoy a refreshing swim followed by the warmth of a traditional Finnish sauna. There are plenty of 
options, both close to the town centre and in more peaceful natural surroundings a little further away.

- Metsälehto Sauna, Haimiontie 365. Winter swimming on Sundays from 3–5 pm. The sauna is located on the shore of a
freshwater reservoir, with easy access to the water via steps from the jetty. The shallow shoreline is also suitable for children. Sauna admission is €5 per person, free for children under 12. (Photo: Vakka-Suomen Latu Facebook).

- Saunalaituri Höyry, open daily from 10 am to 10 pm, Pilssitie 23. Reservations: saunalaiturihoyry.fi/en 

- Haimio Community Sauna, Haimiontie 351. Winter swimming on Saturdays from 4–7 pm. Located on the shore of a freshwater reservoir, the sauna offers relaxing heat and a refreshing swimming experience in beautiful natural surroundings. Admission is €5 per visit or €35 per season. The person responsible for heating the sauna ensures it is ready when the swimming session begins. A season pass requires you to take at least one turn heating the sauna. Please arrive by 5.30 pm at the latest.

- Skate Park and Leijona Playground, located at the inner end of the Kaupunginlahti bay.

- Sorvakko Disc Golf Course, Veneranta 4.

- Hiunjärvi Nature Trail, starting from the Saarnisto School car park, Pajusuontie.

- Kasarminlahti Nature Trail, the marked trail starts from the Sports Field car park at Etelälinjakatu 2. The accessible section 
begins at Kasarminlahdentie 8. From the birdwatching platform, visitors can continue along a more challenging trail to the Kasarminlahti campfire shelter or the Vionpuhti campfire site.

- Pamprinniemi Nature Trail, Hauintie 259, Pyhämaa. The trail is located on parish-owned land in Ketteli, Pyhämaa, and it is 
approximately 4 km long.

- Oinassaari Campfire Shelter, Oinassaarentie 166. A lovely destination for a day trip by car, boat or bicycle. The shelter is located on Korsaari Island, approximately 18 km from Uusikaupunki town centre in the direction of Lepäinen.
