The tip list for the last week of June, featuring events, exhibitions, attractions, and other activities in Uusikaupunki, has been compiled for your convenience. The art house Pilvilinna, brimming with joy and color, opens to the public. The "Yards and Wooden Houses" tours offer a peek into charming yards and gardens. The "Stories of Kaupunginlahti" series of themed guided tours begins. Traditional evening markets at Pakkahuone will once again be filled with a cheerful atmosphere, and the traditional Pyhämaa Day will be celebrated at Laihonen's Croft. Short evening cruises on M/S Kerttu will commence, and there are various opportunities for physical activities. There's plenty to do and see for all ages.
Santtioranta offers a summer full of activities for the whole family! Kids' Mondays will be held every Monday until August 5th from 2 PM to 6 PM, featuring a free bouncy castle for children. Live Music Saturdays will continue throughout the summer with various artists until August 31st, with Rami Rafael performing on June 29th.
Experience the enchanting atmosphere of Old Yards and Gardens on Tuesday, June 25th, at 3 PM. The "Yards and Wooden Houses" tours, organized by the Uudenkaupungin Vanhat Talot association, offer a guided peek into charming yards and gardens in Uusikaupunki. The tour lasts about two hours and includes a garden coffee break. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Uusikaupunki Tourist Office or from the guide at the start of the tour. The traditional evening markets at Pakkahuone are back! Pakkahuone Square will be filled with a summery atmosphere every Wednesday from 4 PM to 7 PM, accompanied by top artists. On June 26th, Nisa Soraya & Miso Misic will be performing at the evening market.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Oskar Merikanto's death. Tenor Jyrki Anttila and soprano Johanna Rusanen-Kartano have put together an unforgettable selection of Oskar Merikanto's most beloved songs, which you can enjoy in the concert "Merikannon sävelin – Onnelliset" on Wednesday, June 26th at 6 PM in the New Church of Uusikaupunki.
The "Stories of Kaupunginlahti" tour on Wednesday, June 26th at 6 PM will guide you in the footsteps of notable figures from Uusikaupunki and provide a wealth of information about the city, its history, and its present, including tales of magnificent, nostalgic sailing ships. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Uusikaupunki Tourist Office or from the guide at the start of the tour. Guidance in Finnish and information available in English if needed.
Café Kukonmäki's small pop-up café will be open on Thursday, June 27th from 10 AM to 6 PM. Kukonmäki is located in a charming wooden house setting. The selection includes freshly baked pastries, coffee, and refreshments. For both small and larger appetites, there is a light lunch menu, including delicious toasts and Kukonmäki's own smoked salmon soup. The café dogs Freja and Tove, cats Hilma and Dave, and adorable bunnies welcome all visitors.
The New Church of Uusikaupunki will continue to have open doors for self-guided contemplation with the help of volunteers on summer Thursdays until August 1st, from 11:45 AM to 2 PM.
In the New Church of Uusikaupunki, there will be traditional Organ Quarter performances on Thursdays at 12 PM until July 18th, featuring music played on the historic Marcussen & Sohn organ (1865). On Thursday, June 27th, the midday matinee will be performed by organist Virpi Vähäpassi.
Cruises to the Isonkari lighthouse island will take place on June 26-30 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) on the passenger ship M/S Kerttu. During the trip, you will see the beautiful nature of the inner archipelago and the vast open sea of the Bothnian Sea, with plenty of birds and sea marks. Upon arrival at Isonkari, you will have lunch at the Kasarmi Restaurant and take a guided tour of the island's nature, history, and, of course, Finland's third oldest lighthouse.

On summer Fridays from 4 PM to 7 PM, the traditional Männäinen themed market features not only market stalls but also a Pop-Up café and live music. On Friday, June 28th, Sanna Arell and Elina Ukkonen will perform at the Männäinen Literary Market.
See and experience Uusikaupunki from the sea! On the guided Friday evening cruise from June 28th to August 9th, you can enjoy the maritime atmosphere aboard M/S Kerttu with a guide from Uusikaupunki Tourism. The boat features comfortable indoor areas, a café/bar, a sun deck, and restrooms. The two-hour cruise offers a relaxing quality time opportunity with family and friends and is perfect as an evening program for a city vacation!
On the Saturday evening cruises on June 29th, and July 13th, 20th, and 27th, there will be live music, sunbathing on the deck, touring the nearby archipelago, and the chance to enjoy Isonkari's signature refreshments.
The traditional Pyhämaa Day on Sunday, June 30th at 11 AM brings together summer residents and locals to Laihonen's Croft in the Pyhämaa village at the turn of June and July. The event promises pleasant togetherness and music. There will be demonstrations of traditional methods such as making split-rail fences, shingles, ropes, and birch whisks, depending on the year. The program offers something for the whole family, including demonstrations, vintage cars, a raffle, salmon soup, and pancakes.
In the Old Church of Uusikaupunki on Sunday, June 30th at 6 PM, there will be a concert featuring Juri Iltšuk & Church Choir Ensemble Kaanon - Church Music and Spiritual Songs. Kaanon will perform Orthodox church music, Ukrainian choral works, folk song arrangements, and newer spiritual compositions.
"The Splendor of a Bourgeois Home and the Golden Age of Maritime Navigation"
Local history comes alive in the museums. The former bourgeois home of a tobacco manufacturer, Wahlberg Museum House, showcases the splendor of a bourgeois home of the past on the ground floor and the golden age of maritime navigation on the upper floor. The museum is open until August 25th, Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday to Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM. Museum director Mari Jalava will give art tours at the museum on Friday, June 28th, and Wednesday, July 3rd, starting at 2 PM. During the approximately half-hour tour, you will hear about the lives of at least five visual artists with roots in Uusikaupunki and see their works. No registration is required, and the tour is included in the regular admission fee. Guidance in Finnish and information available in English if needed.
Wahlberg Museum House offers plenty of activities for young visitors as well. During the summer, there is a popular children's play area in the courtyard building, and in the yard, you can try walking on stilts or hobby horse jumping. Inside, kids can explore the museum like detectives, color pictures of electric trains, or simply play with toy trains.
The former Uusikaupunki Pilot Station, located on the slope of Vallimäki, has served as a small summer museum dedicated to the pilot profession for 50 years this summer. The Pilot Museum is open daily until August 11th from 12 PM to 3 PM, and admission is free.
The Seaman’s Home Museum is located on the edge of Myllymäki in one of Uusikaupunki's oldest surviving residential buildings. Other attractions
Humor, cheerful colors, naive art, the scent of roses, and beautiful seaside views – all this awaits at Art House Pilvilinna, opening on June 25th. The walls, floors, and ceilings of Pilvilinna are fully painted both inside and out. Artist Raija Nokkala's painting exhibitions in the main and courtyard buildings, along with humorous sculptures on the art path, bring joy and happiness to viewers. Other features include the Lace Cottage and annually changing art exhibitions, an atmospheric art path in the forest, a coffee terrace by the sea, a gourmet table, and a card shop showcasing Pilvilinna's own products. Pilvilinna is open until August 10th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 2 PM to 6 PM.
You won't find a more enchanting attraction than the Bonk Museum, which offers the chance to explore the background of the vast Bonk Business Inc. industrial empire. Bonk is a whimsical fantasy product originating from the idea of visual artist Alvar Gullichsen. Oy Bonk AB is a fictional family company around which a whole history has developed, and in its name, numerous inventions have been made. During the summer, children can design and build their own Bonk machine in the Bonk Children's Invention Workshop. The museum is open daily until August 6th from 10 AM to 6 PM.
In the three large exhibition halls of the Automobile Museum, the daydreams of both young and old car enthusiasts come true. The Minimaailma exhibition by the Raunistula Dollhouse Club entertains the whole family. The Automobile Museum is open daily during the summer from 10 AM to 6 PM. For groups, visits can be arranged by appointment.
Churches
The Old Church of Uusikaupunki, as well as the churches of Kalanti and Pyhämaa, are Road Churches and open to visitors during the summer. The New Church is also open for visits on Thursdays and Saturdays.
The Old Church of Uusikaupunki was built in 1629 and is the oldest building in the central area. You can visit the Old Church until August 4th from Wednesday to Saturday between 11 AM and 5 PM, and on Sundays from 12 PM to 4 PM.
The New Church of Uusikaupunki, designed by architect Georg Theodor von Chiewitz in Gothic style, hosts Organ Quarters on Thursdays, June 27th, July 4th, July 11th, and July 18th at 12 PM, with free admission. The New Church is open until August 3rd on Thursdays from 11:45 AM to 2 PM for self-guided contemplation with the help of volunteers, and on Saturdays from 11 AM to 2 PM with guided tours by Uusikaupunki tourism guides.
The vaulted Kalanti Church, or St. Olaf’s Grey Stone Church, was built in the late 1300s. It is open until August 4th from Wednesday to Saturday between 11 AM and 5 PM, and on Sundays from 12 PM to 4 PM. The summer café Suvi operates in the church’s vestibule, open Wednesday to Saturday from 11:15 AM to 4 PM, and on Sundays from 12:15 PM to 4 PM.
The churches of Pyhämaa are open until August 4th from Wednesday to Saturday between 11 AM and 5 PM, and on Sundays from 12 PM to 4 PM. The older, rare wooden church, Pyhämaa Sacrificial Church, was built between 1642 and 1650, and its roof and interior walls are completely covered with paintings. The newer grey stone church dates back to 1804.
For exhibition enthusiasts
The themed exhibition at the Wahlberg Museum House in Uusikaupunki, "THE FIERY HORSE COMES - The 100-year-old Herring Line of Uusikaupunki," tells the story of the design and construction of the century-old Turku-Uusikaupunki railway, the trains and locomotives, and the railway's impact on people's daily lives, other forms of transportation, trade, and industry.
In the exhibition space of the atmospheric café at the Pakkahuone guest marina, the exhibition by Hanna and Jari Laurikko is on display until July 7th. The Pakkahuone café is open every day until August 11th from 8 AM to 10 PM.
At Pakkahuone Square, in the former Vaso Mill, is the Uusikaupunki Maritime Center, maintained by the Uusikaupunki Maritime Historical Association. The Maritime Center is open from June 25th to August 10th, Tuesday to Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM. The space features a variety of maritime historical exhibits. The permanent exhibition includes several old boat engines, a large-scale model of the Uusikaupunki sailing ship Varma, other models, numerous ship paintings, and a well-stocked sales point for the association. Admission to the exhibition is free.
Runonkulman Galleria is an art gallery and art lending library located in the wooden house district of the city center. The gallery features rotating exhibitions, events, courses, lectures, and private events. It also houses Pikkukylän Puoti, a shop selling Finnish handicrafts, design, and art products. The gallery is open in July from Wednesday to Friday, 11 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday, 11 AM to 3 PM. The gallery will showcase the exhibition "Sway Along" by Norwegian artist Elin Muren from June 26th to July 20th. Muren's works and style reflect the beauty and nuances of nature. The opening reception, open to all, will be held on Tuesday, June 25th at 6 PM.
Galleria-Taidelainaamo Horisontti offers art experiences! The artist of the month for June is Oona Leonsaari with her exhibition "Beautiful Death." The gallery is open from Wednesday to Friday, 12 PM to 3 PM, and Saturday, 10 AM to 1 PM.
At Tuhansien Tupsujen Tupsula, unique pompom art pieces are on display, including new animal figures. The fun pompom artworks have also spread to the exterior walls of the exhibition space. Tupsula is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 1 PM to 5 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM.
The Joy of Exercise
Padel Uusikaupunki offers excellent facilities for the highly popular sport of padel right in the city center. Two competition-level, LED-lit courts are located by the waterfront in Crusell Park, close to all amenities. Individual court slots can be booked for an hour or longer, and regular slots are available for those who wish to play frequently.
Enjoy the joy of exercise in a stunning setting. A classic of outdoor games that leaves no one indifferent. The new basketball court near the padel courts is freely available to everyone.
Good vibes golf by the sea. Uusikaupunki's full-length 18-hole golf course is located both by the seaside and almost in the city center.
At the end of Kaupunginlahti, in a prime location close to the city center and the sea, is the impressive Skate Park Pumptrack. Part of the skate park is designed with asphalt for beginner-level users to practice tricks, while the fully concrete section provides opportunities to practice the sport up to Olympic level.
A piece of Finland's most beautiful archipelago is within your reach on this route without needing a boat or worrying about ferry schedules - thanks to the road built through the islands. Drive the entire 50-kilometer route in one go or enjoy the archipelago atmosphere at a leisurely pace. The Velhovesi Ring Road takes you through the northern archipelago of Uusikaupunki, around the Freshwater Basin.
On Tuesdays throughout the summer, you can enjoy summer swimming at the Metsälehto sauna from 6 PM to 8 PM. The sauna is spacious and provides a good steam. You can take a pleasant dip in the water from the pier, but you can also enter the water directly from the shore. Changing rooms are available for both women and men. Swimming is subject to a fee.
At Haimio's free sauna, you can enjoy summer swimming daily. The free sauna is open to everyone and is located next to the public beach. The first person to arrive heats the sauna. The sauna is maintained and operated by Jokisivu Youth Association.
Out into nature
You can enjoy nature, for example, on the Pamprinniemi nature trail in Pyhämaa. In the central area, you'll find Hiunjärvi, known as a bird lake, with its nature trails and lean-tos. The accessible outdoor route and bird-watching platform at Kasarminlahti can be reached by hiking from the sports field parking area. There's also a lean-to near the route. The Oinassaari lean-to, located in Korsaari, is another nice destination for a trip. It's about 18 kilometers from Uusikaupunki's center towards Lepäinen. Pack some grilling supplies in your backpack and head out!

The food in Uusikaupunki is delicious and available in a variety of restaurants and cafes. The restaurants support local production, so you'll always find local products on your plate. Occasionally, restaurants also offer entertainment.
