The most atmospheric music week of the summer fills the historic venues of Uusikaupunki with outstanding concerts and internationally acclaimed artists. This year’s theme, Amour – Love and French Music, takes audiences on a journey through the enchanting world of French music and the unique musical legacy of Bernhard Crusell.

Throughout the week, you can enjoy concerts in beautiful historical settings, visit summer theatre performances, and combine these cultural experiences with the best of a seaside summer town – charming cafés and restaurants, the old wooden town, fascinating guided walking tours, and many other interesting attractions.

In the Footsteps of Crusell – Guided Walking Tour

Travel back in time to Uusikaupunki in the late 18th century on  Friday, 31 July at 11:00 am.. This guided walking tour takes you through the childhood landscapes of composer and clarinetist Bernhard Henrik Crusell. This tour will be held in english.

Along the way, you will learn what life was like in Uusikaupunki during Crusell’s time, visit the site of his birthplace, and discover how his legacy can still be seen throughout the town today. The tour starts at the Peace Memorial in the Market Square and ends there as well.

After the tour, participants are welcome to stay and enjoy the Crusell Week “Fanfare of the day” concert, which begins at 12:00 noon on the Market Square stage.

The tour has been designed and will be guided by tourist guide Hanna Nieminen. The participation fee is €15.

Crusell Week

The theme of Crusell Week 2026 is Amour – a celebration of love and French music. Throughout the week, Uusikaupunki comes alive with music performed in historic churches, a charming 19th-century wooden house, a beautiful manor setting, and the recently completed Wintter Multi-Activity Centre.

Internationally acclaimed, Crusell Week is a festival dedicated to wind music and named after the composer and clarinet virtuoso Bernhard Henrik Crusell, who was born in Uusikaupunki in 1775. The 2026 programme brings together French music, world-class performers, chamber music, orchestral concerts, vocal music, folk music and a concert for the whole family.

Festival highlights include:

• Daily "Fanfare of the Day" (Päivän Puhallus) at the Market Square stage every day at 12 noon.
• The opening concert Amours, featuring masterpieces of French wind music.
• Soirée de la chanson, where soprano Angelika Klas and pianist Kirill Kozlovski present an enchanting programme of French art songs.
• Performances by soprano Helena Juntunen at the gala concert and intimate salon concerts held in Crusell’s birthplace.
• A lively musical and theatrical performance by the Paris-based clarinet quartet Les Bons Becs.
• Olivier Messiaen’s masterpiece Quartet for the End of Time (La fin du temps).
• The gala concert by the Vaasa City Orchestra.
• The atmospheric Night of Lanterns picnic concert at Vallinmäki.
• Young Virtuosos concerts showcasing participants of the festival’s masterclasses.
• The seaside closing event Croisière musicale, combining a scenic cruise, a festive dinner and a concert.

The festival programme also includes a children's concert, instrument try-outs, a morning devotion followed by a traditional French breakfast, and much more.

• Old Church Tower Visit Warm-Up Event

  Three guided 20-minute tower visits will be arranged during the hour, with space for a total of 15 participants (3 groups of 5). The tours are led by volunteer tower guide Boris Sinilaakso. Visitors enter the tower at their own risk and must follow all safety instructions. Registration begins on-site at 11.30 am, and places are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The minimum age is second grade, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Free of charge.
• Pakkahuone Evening Market

  Join the Laula Kanssain community sing-along led by conductor and pianist Jari Puhakka, well known from Finnish TV shows such as Bumtsi Bum and Tuttu Juttu. The market also features local vendors and flea market stalls. Sales spots cannot be reserved in advance and are allocated in the order vendors arrive.

  The keynote speech will be given by retired Chief Financial Officer Seppo Juntti. The event also features the exhibition Aerial Photographs of Kalanti, coffee during the intermission and a prize draw. Free admission.

The churches are open until 2 August. After that, the Old Church will remain open on Tuesday 4 August, and the New Church will continue to be open on Tuesdays only until 25 August.

Exhibitions

• Runonkulma Gallery and Pikkukylä Shop (Ylinenkatu 38B).
  On display is Annukka Pietilä's exhibition Mielensaaristo – Sinnets Skärgård. Pikkukylä Shop offers a fine selection of Finnish handicrafts, design products and art. The gallery and shop are open Wed–Fri 11 am–5 pm and Sat 11 am–3 pm.
• Gallery Horisontti (Alinenkatu 24).
  The main gallery features Hiltu Sallinen's exhibition "Näin Näin", while the studio displays paintings and prints by Tiina Kuusikoski. Open Wed–Fri 12 noon–3 pm and Sat 10 am–1 pm.
• Blankets and Clothing – Made in Uusikaupunki
  Wahlberg Museum House, Ylinenkatu 11. Uusikaupunki's textile industry flourished especially during the 1940s–1960s, employing large numbers of women, although the town's first textile factory was established as early as 1919. The industry's most significant company, Uudenkaupungin Villatavaratehdas (later Uuvi Oy), operated until 1987. In addition, more than ten other textile companies produced fabrics, socks and clothing in the town. The exhibition presents the history of these companies and shares the stories of the people who worked in the industry. Open Mon–Fri 10 am–5 pm and Sat–Sun 11 am–4 pm.
• Uusikaupunki Maritime Centre (Pakkahuoneentori).
  Open Tue–Sun 11 am–6 pm. This year's main exhibition focuses on maritime rescue services. Organised by the Uusikaupunki Maritime History Association, the exhibition presents both local and national sea rescue operations, past and present. It also features selected museum objects and photographs.
• Miniature Model Exhibition (Kylähiidentie 55, Kalanti).
  Open daily 10 am–6 pm. The exhibition features around 80 detailed scale models, including cars, aircraft, motorcycles and ships, as well as a miniature of Tutankhamun's tomb and Keke Rosberg's Formula One World Championship-winning car. Admission: €5 adults / €3 children.
• Tupsula – The Exhibition of Thousands of Tassels
  and Päivi Virkkunen: Night in the Garden (Alinenkatu 24). Open Tue & Thu 1–5 pm and Sat 10 am–2 pm. As a special attraction this summer, the people of Tupsula have also created a beautiful crocheted boat, now on display by the Pakkahuone waterfront.
• Uusikaupunki Library – Galleria Kirjava (Alinenkatu 34).
  Tarja Karawatski – Along the Shores The library is open until the end of July:
  Mon–Thu 10 am–6 pm and Fri 10 am–5 pm. The beautifully renovated main library combines a historic setting with modern library services. Its extensive renovation, completed in 2025, created comfortable, contemporary and accessible facilities for visitors of all ages.
• Pakkahuone Café (Pakkahuoneentori 1).
  Works by Lasse Jännes are on display in the café's exhibition space. Open daily 8 am–10 pm.
• Käsityöpuar (Pyhämaanranta 37, Pyhämaa).
  A craft shop offering locally made handicrafts from Pyhämaa, including traditional seafaring handicrafts, scale models, jewellery, knitwear, table runners, towels, rag rugs, woven textiles and ceramics. Open Wed–Sun 10 am–4 pm.
• Ingrid Biese's Summer Exhibition on Iso-Vehasi Island
  The World Can Be A Beautiful Place
• The exhibition is located in Strandstugan on Iso-Vehanen Island and can be reached by boat. Visitors may moor at the jetty on the western side of Naskalvik Bay. First follow the alignment marked by two white boards from the green navigation marker at Rantakari, then continue through the middle of the bay to the jetty. From there, it is approximately a 200-metre walk to the gallery. Open 24 hours a day.

Art House Pilvilinna

Pilvilinna (Hiuntie 212) is a unique art destination full of colour, joy and surprises. Naïve paintings and humorous sculptures by artist Raija Nokkala are displayed throughout the Pilvilinna grounds. Rotating exhibitions, a fun sculpture trail and the beautiful seaside setting make Pilvilinna a one-of-a-kind place for visitors of all ages.

Pilvilinna is open Tue, Wed, Thu and Sat from 2–6 pm. There is also a café on site.

Museums

• Bonk Museum & Children's Invention Workshop (Siltakatu 2).
  The Bonk Museum presents the fascinating and humorous world of the fictional industrial empire Bonk Business Inc. The exhibition features unusual Bonk machines, including non-functional devices and imaginative inventions dating from the 19th century to the 1950s. Bonk is a fantasy concept created by artist Alvar Gullichsen, complete with its own fictional industrial history. Open daily 10 am–6 pm.

• Seaman's House Museum (Myllykatu 20).

• Wahlberg Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11).
  Open Mon–Fri 10 am–5 pm and Sat–Sun 11 am–4 pm. Guided museum tours (in finnish) are available Tuesdays at 10.30 am and Thursdays at 3.30 pm. The guided tour is included in the admission fee (€6). The museum courtyard also features a traditional cobbler's workshop and a children's play area.
• Automobile Museum (Autotehtaankatu 11).
  Open daily 10 am–6 pm. The Automobile Museum is one of Finland's most important car museums and one of Uusikaupunki's most popular year-round attractions. Its three exhibition halls showcase classic automobiles, the history of the Finnish automotive industry and unique special exhibitions. Highlights of the collection include Korvensuu, the first car manufactured in Finland (1913), as well as an extensive collection of Saab vehicles.

Wellbeing, Outdoor Activities & Exercise

• Beach Yoga at Santtioranta (Kalalokkikuja 14)
  Every Wednesday, 9–10 am. The class includes breathing exercises, body control, and stretching and strengthening movements. • Pamprinniemi Nature Trail, Hauintie 259, Pyhämaa.
  Located in Ketteli, Pyhämaa, on parish-owned land, the trail is approximately 4 km long.
• Oinassaari Lean-to Shelter, Oinassaarentie 166.
  A pleasant excursion destination for motorists, boaters and cyclists. The shelter is located on Korsaari Island, about 18 km from the centre of Uusikaupunki towards Lepäinen.
