At the same time, you can admire this beautiful red-brick Gothic Revival church, completed in 1863 and designed by architect Chiewitz, known for its bright interior, clear architecture, and peaceful atmosphere.
History comes alive in the museums

Wahlberg House Museum (Ylinenkatu 11) is located in the wooden house district within the town’s grid-plan centre. This impressive residence was built in the early 1870s by Fredrik Wahlberg, founder of Uusikaupunki’s tobacco factory. The rooms still feature ornate tiled stoves, elaborate ceiling paintings, and in the salon even original hand-painted wallpapers over 150 years old.
Upstairs, the museum presents shipbuilding, outfitting, and merchant seafaring. Sailors’ chests, souvenirs, ship portraits, and a captain’s navigation instruments vividly tell the story of the town’s maritime past. Younger visitors can play detective and complete exhibition-related tasks. You can explore maritime history and bourgeois life from Tuesday to Friday, 12–3 pm.

The exhibition “Among the First – Women of Uusikaupunki in a Man’s World” at Wahlberg House Museum presents 13 local women from the late 19th and early 20th centuries who were pioneers in professions officially open only to men at the time. Such fields long included, for example, church organists and doctors. Many of these women also pursued hobbies not yet considered suitable for women, such as hunting or sailing. The exhibition is open during the museum’s regular opening hours until late March 2026.

The Car Museum on Autotehtaankatu is open every day from 11 am to 5 pm. Across three halls, visitors can see more than a hundred vehicles – from classic cars to futuristic concept models, as well as motorcycles and even an aircraft. A place of honour is given to Korvensuu (1913), the first Finnish car built in Mynämäki.
The museum also displays the first Saab produced at the Uusikaupunki car factory on 13 November 1969. This Saab 96 was presented to President Urho Kekkonen and carried the registration EKA-96. You can also see earlier Saabs made in Trollhättan, Sweden, including the first Saab 92 registered in Finland (1950). In addition, visitors can explore a restoration workshop and the museum shop. The museum also features a diverse art exhibition from a Finnish private collection, including works by Juhani Palmu and Pekka Laiho.
