June event tips up until Midsummer

June is a vibrant and active time in Uusikaupunki. Over the next two weeks, there’s a wide range of events and activities on offer—culture, music, sports, nature experiences, and happenings for all ages. The charm of the Old Town, the maritime atmosphere, and the friendly vibe make every visit special.

Local restaurants host free live performances several nights a week, and concerts by Finnish pop star Diandra and American organist Clive Driskill-Smith will take place at the New Church. Guided tours offer a chance to explore the fascinating history of Myllymäki hill and hear stories from the fictional sailor’s wife Elli Sjövall, who paints a vivid picture of life in Uusikaupunki in the late 1800s. The Kasarminlahti nature walk invites participants to observe plants and listen to birdsong.

After renovations, the Wahlberg Museum House is reopening its doors, and both the Sailor’s Home Museum and the Pilot Museum will welcome summer visitors. Those seeking physical activity are spoiled for choice: from gym circuit training to outdoor workout marathons, you’ll definitely break a sweat. For a calmer pace, yoga and sound bowl relaxation sessions offer a chance to unwind.

Lasten maanantai
Children’s Mondays, designed for kids, take place every Monday from 2 PM to 6 PM at the Santtioranta camping site, Kalalokkikuja 14. As usual, the program includes a bouncy castle and face painting. All activities at the event are free of charge for children.

A guided bike ride to Pakkahuone will take place on Monday, June 9 at 5 PM. This cheerful 14-kilometer ride is all about enjoying the journey—no need to race! The ride starts at the main entrance of the Wintteri Community House and ends at Pakkahuone. Short warm-up and cool-down exercises are guided before and after the ride. Light rain won’t stop us, but in case of heavy rain, the ride will be canceled.

You can learn how to make traditional outdoor paints on Wednesday, June 11 from 3 PM to 8 PM. The course covers the making and application of traditional paints such as boiled paint, linseed oil paint, lime paint, and tar paint. Boiled paint in the classic “yellow ochre” shade will also be available for purchase (bring your own container, €7 per liter). Myllymäki
The guided Myllymäki tour on Wednesday, June 11 from 6 PM to 7 PM offers a fascinating journey through the past of Uusikaupunki’s Myllymäki Hill. This historic and green oasis was a gift from a prominent local figure, merchant Johan Nordström, who was born on the hillside and wanted to give back to his beloved hometown. During the guided walking tour, you’ll dive into the history and stories of the old windmills, admire the park’s historic perennials and rare plants, and pause at a memorial honoring those who served in air surveillance during wartime. The tour explores the park, its founder, plantings, and buildings on foot. The guided tour will be held in Finnish. Tickets and more information are available on the Visit Uusikaupunki website.

Organ Matinee on Thursday, June 12 at 12 PM at the New Church, Rauhankatu 3. Organist Toni Heino will perform alongside mezzo-soprano Sofia Immonen. The program features organ and vocal music by, among others, Jean Sibelius and Ilkka Kuusisto. Free admission.

The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL) Uusikaupunki is organizing a playful checkpoint adventure for families with children on Thursday, June 12 from 5 PM to 7 PM, called Onni the Teddy is Hiding. The checkpoints are located in the vicinity of Ipana-Messi and are mostly outdoors. Maps are available at Ipana-Messi, Rantakatu 15. The event is free of charge.

Diandra
Diandra is known for her exceptional voice, strong stage presence, and emotionally powerful interpretations. Her summer concert at Uusikaupunki's New Church on Thursday, June 12 at 6 PM will feature a selection of “Songs of My Life,” forgotten gems, and summery classics from Finland and around the world. Come and experience the joy of music accompanied by an acoustic ensemble. Tickets available in advance at Tiketti or at the door.

The first Männäinen Market event of the summer will be held in Kalanti (Pankkitie 2) on Friday, June 13 from 3:30 PM to 7 PM. The summer season of the “Vakka Market” begins with a celebration in honor of incoming Member of Parliament Mauri Kontu, the founder and former chairman and driving force behind the Männäisten Tori association. Mauri will officially open the market and treat everyone to coffee and doughnuts. Music will be provided by the long-time local favorite Rami Rafael.

Sound of Joy – great music and summer vibes at Uusikaupunki Market Square on Saturday, June 14 starting at 10 AM. The stage will feature Pekka Simojoki & Trio, promising unforgettable musical moments for the whole family. There will also be face painting and a free bouncy castle for kids. Welcome to enjoy a joyful summer day at the market square!

Come and experience a celebration of fashion as Alinenkatu transforms into a stunning catwalk on Saturday, June 14 from 12 PM to 2 PM. The red carpet will showcase a dazzling array of outfits presented by local boutiques. Participating in the show are Kenkäkauppa Alina, Kesport, Reinholm, Ompelu-Ateljee Elina, Putiikki Sik-Sak, Studio 25, and Sisustus Ulpukka. Get inspired by summer trends and discover your new style—straight from local brick-and-mortar shops.

On Saturday, June 14 from 12 PM to 4 PM, the Vohdensaari Village Association will host an Open Villages Day event. A trunk flea market will be part of the festivities, and you can book a spot by emailing: hanna.limnell@gmail.com. There’s no fee for sellers, and you're free to sell anything under the sun. A summer café will also be open during the event.

Uusikaupunki Sailing Club’s regatta will take place on Saturday, June 14 in Pietarinkari. The race is open to all boats that meet the FinRating rule. Registration by June 13 at 3 PM via: www.manage2sail.com

The Kalanti Local Heritage Museum, located in Männäinen, Kalanti (Kuriirikuja 1), showcases the peasant culture of the Vakka-Suomi region. The museum will be open on Sunday, June 15 from 11 AM to 4 PM. Admission for adults is €2 (cash only).

Clive Driskill-Smith
On Sunday, June 15 at 6 PM, American organist Clive Driskill-Smith will perform a concert at the New Church (Rauhankatu 3). He is considered one of the leading organists of his generation, praised worldwide for his exceptional technical skill. Driskill-Smith's repertoire spans six centuries and includes, among others, the complete organ works of Maurice Duruflé and Olivier Messiaen. Program: €10.

A hobbyhorse camp will be held at Velhola Stable (Kattilvedentie 1, Pyhämaa) from Monday to Wednesday, June 16–18, 2025. The camp offers fun activities with hobbyhorses, including two riding sessions and one theory session each day. There will also be games, swimming, quality time together, and a trail ride to a campfire site, led by a real pony. The camp fee is €180. Please note: Insurance is required. The day camp runs from 10 AM to 5 PM and is intended for children under 9 years old; children under 7 must be accompanied by their own adult. Elli Sjövall
Step into the story of a sailor’s wife on a new character-guided walking tour on Tuesday, June 17 at 6 PM. Elli Sjövall arrived in Uusikaupunki in the 1870s aboard the steamship Leimu, having traveled from the Pori region. She had met and fallen in love with a sailor from Uusikaupunki at the Reposaari harbor. The couple quickly got engaged and married when their first child was on the way. Hear Elli’s tales and learn what life was like in Uusikaupunki in the late 1800s as the wife of a sailor and mother of a family. The tour was created and scripted by local guide Lea Myllymäki, who also plays the fictional role of Elli Sjövall and leads the tour in character. Starting point: in front of Hotel Aittaranta, Aittaranta 2, Uusikaupunki. The guided tour will be held in Finnish.

Cafe Kukonmäki
On Wednesday, June 18, Pop-Up Café Kukonmäki (Merimiehenkatu 27) will open its doors for the first time this summer. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Café Kukonmäki!

This charming little pop-up café is nestled in a cozy wooden house setting and offers a selection of freshly baked pastries, hot dogs, toasted sandwiches, and Kukonmäki’s own signature smoked salmon soup. The café is open from 10 AM to 6 PM. Next opening day: Wednesday, June 25.

Kasarminlahti
A guided nature walk through Kasarminlahti and Sorvakko will take place on Wednesday, June 18. The tour begins at 6 PM from the parking lot of Sorvakko Sports Field, Etelälinjakatu 2. Join this peaceful two-hour walk as we observe summer plants, listen to birdsong, and watch birds in motion. We'll pause to admire the stunning landscape fields of Sorvako and hear about the area's fascinating history and recreational opportunities. The guided tour will be held in Finnish.

At the Organ Matinee on Thursday, June 19 at 12 PM at the New Church (Rauhankatu 3), Kari Vuola will perform. Free admission.

A Midsummer celebration for the whole family will be held at Haukharja (Lavikontie 456) on Friday, June 20 at 6 PM. The program includes sing-alongs, a devotional moment, sauna, sausage grilling, and playful family Olympics. Joining the festivities are Pastor Jari, Cantor Aada, and Sexton Teijo.

Bonk
The Bonk Museum and the Children’s Invention Room, located at Siltakatu 2, is open until June 19 from Tuesday to Saturday, 11 AM–3 PM. After Midsummer, the museum will be open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM until August 5.

The Bonk Museum offers a fascinating look into the background of this vast industrial empire. The exhibits feature carefully restored Bonk devices and products, focusing on the company's early history from the mid-1800s to the 1950s.

In the Children’s Invention Room, young visitors can first draw their designs and then start building their own Bonk machines. Working in the children’s workshop is the most entertaining activity in the world, based on the educational theories of Dr. Lithium. Young “child workers” can also take part in constructing the Bonk time machine—no wages will be paid, but neither will there be a charge for any bolts they might accidentally swallow.

Museon näyttely
Wahlberg's Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11) is the main site of the Uusikaupunki Museum. It is located in the grid-plan district in a grand former bourgeois residence that once belonged to tobacco manufacturer Fredrik Wahlberg. The upstairs exhibition rooms offer a captivating look into the town’s maritime history.

Opening on Monday, June 9, the new exhibition is titled “Among the First – Women of Uusikaupunki in a Man’s World.” It features 13 pioneering local women who pursued careers traditionally reserved for men—such as organists or doctors, roles that for a long time were officially open only to men. Many of these women also engaged in hobbies that were not considered appropriate for women at the time, such as hunting or sailing. The exhibition will remain open until late March 2026.

From June 9 to August 24, the museum is open Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and weekends from 11 AM to 4 PM. Closed during Midsummer.

During the summer season, from June 19 onwards, summer staff offer guided tours on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM and Thursdays at 3:30 PM (with some exceptions). The guided tour is included in the admission fee.

         Merimiehenkoti     Luotsimuseo

The Pilot Museum and the Sailor’s Home Museum will open their doors on Monday, June 16, and will be open daily from 12 PM to 3 PM (closed during Midsummer).

The Pilot Museum (Mäyhälänkatu 2B) is located in Uusikaupunki’s pilot station, built in the 1850s. During the summer, it operates as a museum showcasing original artifacts from this and nearby pilot stations in two exhibition rooms. Young visitors can try their hand at knot-tying or take part in fun detective games. Free admission.

The Sailor’s Home Museum (Myllykatu 20) stands at the edge of Myllymäki Hill and is one of the oldest surviving residential buildings in Uusikaupunki, likely built in the 1770s. The small house is furnished to reflect the home of a local sailor’s family in the early 1900s. Free admission.

Horisontti
At Gallery and Art Lending Service Horisontti on Alinenkatu 24, you can visit the 10th Anniversary Exhibition of the Uusikaupunki Visual Arts Association until June 28. Opening hours: Wed–Fri from 12 PM to 3 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 1 PM.

At the same address, you’ll also find Tupsula, a cheerful and colorful exhibition featuring thousands of yarn pom-poms—a delight for children and craft lovers alike. Tupsula is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 PM to 5 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 1 PM.

You can also enjoy art at Café Pakkahuone, open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM. In June, the works of Kikka Grönros are on display. Her paintings feature collage and mixed media techniques, combining acrylic paints, markers, or pastels. Her artworks are rich in detail, often full of vibrant colors and layers.

At Cruselli Cultural Centre (Kullervontie 11), you can explore the "Future" group exhibition by the Kreivo collective, showcasing works by eight photographic artists: Kirsti Näntö-Salonen, Maija Mäntyvaara, Maiju Roos, Markku Salonen, Matilda Runonen, Matti Ratia, Tanja Lepistö, and Tuija Nummela. The exhibition is open Mon–Wed and Fri from 10 AM to 4 PM, and Thursdays from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Tiia Kopsa
In Raimo’s Chamber at Kalanti Library (Pankkitie 2), you can visit Tiia Kopsa’s first photography exhibition, Moments in Nature. The exhibition takes you on a journey from the early days of her hobby to the present, showcasing the development of her photography skills and her personal artistic growth.

The Raimo’s Chamber exhibition space is open Tuesdays from 1 PM to 7 PM and Wednesday to Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM. The exhibition runs until June 26.

saab
The Automobile Museum on Autotehtaankatu is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM. The museum features a wide range of classic cars and exhibits related to various aspects of motorsports and automotive history. A place of honor is given to the first Finnish car, the Korvensuu, from 1913. The museum also houses an extensive Saab collection.


Restaurant Entertainment

At Cafe Zaku’s Ranta (Suukarintie 6B), a motor café event is held on summer Wednesdays. All hobby car enthusiasts, motorcyclists, and anyone else looking for a good time are warmly welcome. Along with great food and drinks, you can enjoy live music performances and a relaxed atmosphere with fellow visitors. The café/bar is located in the Voimala Zaku yard, offering stunning sea views. On Wednesday, June 18, Mikko Itäranta will perform.

At Pakkahuone Terrace's After Work on Friday, June 13 from 6 PM to 9 PM, enjoy a live performance by Päivi Kurkilahti.

At Bistro Bay, on Friday, June 13 at 10:30 PM, the absolutely fantastic Akusti Niskanen will take the stage with a set of the best rock covers. Akusti has wowed audiences with his powerful interpretations of rock music’s greatest hits.

On Saturday, June 14, kluBBen will feature DJ Centerhouse spinning records starting at 9 PM.

At Restaurant Captain’s Makasiini, Olli Lepänrinne will perform on Friday, June 13 at 9 PM. Olli is a singer-songwriter from Turku who has released his own music and written songs for many well-known Finnish artists. On Saturday, June 14 at 9 PM, Duo Kaikkonen & Liekkala will take the stage with a repertoire of rock and grunge classics, movie soundtracks, and original songs.

On Wednesday, June 18, Jere Rostedt will entertain guests at Restaurant Captain’s Makasiini starting at 7:30 PM. On Thursday, June 19, the Midsummer festivities kick off with Kalle & Susse at 7:30 PM.

On Midsummer’s Eve, Friday June 20, the entertaining duo 76 Notes will perform at 9 PM, offering their signature mix of music and humor. On Midsummer Day, Saturday June 21 at 9 PM, Chris, Laurell & Mika will take the stage with a powerful and energetic set featuring well-known rock and metal hits.

Also on Midsummer’s Eve, June 20 from 6 PM to 9 PM, Anniina Lång will perform on the Pakkahuone Terrace. With over 25 years of stage experience in various ensembles and a finalist spot in the Tangomarkkinat singing competition, Anniina is sure to deliver an impressive performance.

At the Santtioranta Midsummer Dances on Friday, June 20 from 4 PM to 7 PM, Isto Hiltunen will take the stage. He rose to fame in 1994 with his platinum-selling album and has since become a versatile performer with dozens of chart-topping hits.

On Saturday, June 21 from 4 PM to 7 PM, the stage will be taken over by the band KasKasKas. When a solo troubadour isn’t quite enough and a full party band is too much—KasKasKas is the perfect in-between! With guitar, piano, vocals, and a foot drum, they bring energy and fun to every event.

Isokari
Day Cruises to Isokari

Isokari is a large island located in the Bothnian Sea, home to a lighthouse that has guided seafarers since its completion in 1833. During the summer season, this lighthouse island offers visitors unforgettable experiences. The lighthouse, fully renovated in 2020, can be visited on guided tours, and those wishing to admire the views must climb nearly 200 steps to the top. Day cruises to Isokari are available Wednesday to Sunday in June (no cruise on June 14). The journey departs at 10:30 AM aboard M/S Kerttu from behind the Pakkahuone guest harbor, address: Pakkahuoneenkuja 2, and returns to the same location at 5:30 PM.

A seal safari to the Sandbäck Seal Protection Area will take place on Saturday, June 14 from 9 AM to 5:30 PM. Departure is aboard M/S Kerttu from behind the Pakkahuone guest harbor, address: Pakkahuoneenkuja 2.

This is a unique opportunity to head out to the open sea to observe and photograph the largest seals of the Baltic Sea, the grey seals, in their natural habitat. At Sandbäck, seal numbers typically range from several dozen to several hundred.

The safari also includes two lighthouse sightingsSandbäck and Isokari. At Isokari, you'll have the chance to enter the lighthouse and climb all the way to the top.

Omnigym
Come and explore the new Omnigym outdoor fitness equipment on June 10 from 1 PM to 5 PM, and take part in a guided circuit training session starting at 4 PM, where you’ll get hands-on experience with the equipment under the guidance of a fitness professional. The event is free and open to everyone, offering a great opportunity to exercise outdoors, try out new gear, and pick up tips for independent training.

You can also join a sweat session on Tuesday, June 10 at 6 PM. This functional workout may include jumping and running segments. The session features a mix of mobility, strength, and cardio components, making it both effective and versatile. The class may be structured as circuit training or a WOD-style (Workout of the Day) session with a set daily program. The workout takes place at Wintteri's athletics area, Pohjoistullitie 3, and is free of charge.

There will also be a free outdoor gym introduction session on June 11 at 3 PM in the Wintteri courtyard, Viikaistenkatu 3. A coach will be on site to demonstrate equipment use and provide tips for outdoor fitness training.

kuntoportaat
An Outdoor Training Marathon will take place using Wintteri’s outdoor gym equipment on Monday, June 16 from 5 PM to 7 PM. The workout combines circuit training and stair training.

The marathon starts at Wintteri’s outdoor gym area with a warm-up, followed by approximately 50 minutes of circuit training, and ends with a cool-down. After that, there’s a 15-minute break to refill water bottles, followed by 45 minutes of stair training at the nearby fitness stairs. The stair workout includes a gentle start, a training phase, and a short cool-down stretch. The stair session can be adjusted to suit all fitness levels. You’re welcome to participate in just one part of the marathon if you prefer.
The workout is free of charge.

Also on Monday, June 16 at 6 PM, a Park Workout (Puistojumppa) will be held at Myllymäki Hill. This refreshing outdoor session includes a warm-up, muscle-strengthening exercises, and a cool-down stretch. Everyone is encouraged to join at their own pace and fitness level. The workout is mostly done standing, but you’re welcome to bring your own mat if you'd like.

Stair workouts will be held at the Sorvakko fitness stairs (Veneranta 4) on Tuesday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 18 from 6 PM to 7 PM. Stair training is an excellent way to build lower body strength, improve endurance, and boost aerobic capacity. Both lighter and more intense workout options are available. The intensity level (light or heavy) is marked in the calendar. Everyone is welcome, and the exercises can be adapted to suit all fitness levels. Light rain won’t stop us, but in case of heavy rain, the sessions will be canceled.

kesäjumppa
Ellen’s summer workouts have begun! In June, classes run until June 24, and after a short break, they resume on July 22.Outdoor kettlebell training takes place on Tuesdays at 7 PM in the Ainonkuja playground, and Zumba classes are held on Wednesdays at 7 PM by the Sorvako shore. At Kalanti Workers’ Hall (Pappilankuja 9), there’s Pilates every Monday at 5 PM, followed by Lavis at 6 PM. Pilates is a session focused on building strength, balance, and body control. Please bring your own exercise mat and water bottle. Lavis is a fun dance workout inspired by traditional Finnish ballroom dance music. Wear comfortable clothes and light sneakers suitable for dancing, and bring a water bottle.

Satya Yoga offers park yoga sessions in Myllymäki Park, Uusikaupunki every Thursday from 6 PM to 7 PM (no session on June 12). Come and experience the calming power of nature as you practice yoga—nature as the studio, the earth as the floor, the sky as the ceiling, and birdsong and rustling leaves as your background music. Myllymäki Park Yoga is a gentle Hatha yoga class. The session includes some flow-like transitions between asanas, as well as repeated bodyweight movements, finishing with stretches and a guided relaxation. Please bring your own water bottle and yoga/exercise mat. A blanket is recommended for the final relaxation, and dress according to the weather.
The yoga area is located in the center of Myllymäki, between the water tower's sand area and the playground.

Studio Hyvinvoinnin Palikat offers Cottage Yoga at Sisula (Eräistenkarintie 10, Lokalahti) every Friday from 7 PM to 8 PM throughout June to August. Haimio
At Haimio’s public sauna (Haimiontie 351), you can enjoy summer swimming and sauna daily. The public sauna is open to everyone and is located next to the local swimming beach. The first visitor of the day heats the sauna. The sauna is managed and maintained by Jokisivu Youth Association. It has been fully renovated and renewed during the spring. You can support the community-driven renovation with a voluntary and self-chosen sauna fee. Instructions are available at the sauna.

Metsälehdon sauna
On Tuesdays, everyone is welcome to join the summer swim evenings at Metsälehto Sauna from 6 PM to 8 PM (Haimiontie 365). Metsälehto Sauna is located on the shore of a freshwater basin. There is a good pier with stairs leading into the water, and you can also enter the water directly from the beach. The water is shallow near the pier, making it suitable for children as well. The Pumptrack Skate Park is a fun destination for the whole family, offering a space where skateboarders, scooter riders, and cyclists can all enjoy their hobby. It’s located at the end of Kaupunginlahti Bay, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Next to the skate park, you’ll find the popular Leijona Playground for children, as well as an activity park designed for seniors.

The golf course on Kasarminlahdentie invites players to enjoy the game by the sea. Now is the perfect time to grab your clubs and head outdoors to experience nature. The golf club, located at Golfintie 2, is the place to handle tee time bookings and connect with fellow golf enthusiasts in a relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned player or a complete beginner, the course offers excellent facilities for players of all skill levels. The next beginner’s course will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10–11. The course covers the fundamentals of golf, both in theory and practice, and no prior experience is needed.

Padel
Padel is a racket sport that has gained huge popularity in recent years and originates from Mexico. The game combines elements of tennis and squash, making it incredibly fun and engaging. Padel is often considered the most social sport in the world and is also the fastest-growing sport globally. Padel is officially played as doubles, but it can also be enjoyed one-on-one. maastopyöräily
Open mountain biking group rides are held every Sunday, with departures at 12 PM from the “Penguin Park” located on the shore of Ruokolanjärvi in Uusikaupunki. These rides are beginner-friendly and first-timers are warmly welcomed. The route and pace are adjusted according to the participants’ skill levels. Dress appropriately for the weather, and for safety reasons, wearing a helmet is required. Cycling gloves are also recommended. hiujärvi
You can enjoy nature through several scenic spots, such as the Pamprinniemi Nature Trail in Pyhämaa. Closer to the town center, you'll find Hiunjärvi, a well-known bird lake with its own nature trail and a lean-to shelter.

The accessible Kasarminlahti trail and birdwatching tower can be reached by hiking from the sports field parking area, and there’s also a lean-to nearby. Another great destination is the Oinassaari lean-to in Korsaaressa, about 18 kilometers from Uusikaupunki’s town center in the direction of Lepäinen. Just pack some food to grill and head out for an adventure!
