Katanpää Fort island

THE SOUTHERNMOST ATTRACTION OF THE BOTHNIAN SEA NATIONAL PARK

The Katanpää fort island is located along the strait of Ströömi on the Lypyrtti island in Kustavi, which is part of the Bothnian Sea National Park. The island’s unique nature, historic buildings and sheltered port make it an excellent spot for a day trip.

The fort was built in the 1910s during the reign of Tsar Nicholas II. In the 1930s, there was also an auxiliary prison operating at the fort. The fort structures and buildings, including the cobblestone street and the wooden water tower, are protected under the Antiquities Act.

You can also stay overnight on Katanpää, enjoy a meal or sauna, or organise meetings and parties. Join a guided tour to learn about the island’s intriguing history. There is also a guest harbour on the island, if you wish to sail there yourself.

From Uusikaupunki on M/S Kerttu

June 12 – August 8 on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 am to 6 pm. (excl. July 10)

August 14 – 28 on Mondays from 10 am to 6 pm.

Departure from Uusikaupunki at 10 am, arrival at Katanpää at noon, departure from Katanpää at 4 pm, back in Uusikaupunki at 6 pm.

Prices: adults 85 €, children 4-12 yo 42 €, 0-3 yo admission free. Price incl. return sea transportation, soup lunch at Katanpää and guided tour on island. Departure pier is at the guest harbour, behind Pakkahuone, address Pakkahuoneenkuja, Uusikaupunki.

From Kustavi Lootholma

In July on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 am to 5 pm.

Prices: adults 85 €, children 4-12 yo 42 €, 0-3 yo admission free. Price incl. return sea transportation, soup lunch at Katanpää and guided tour on island. Departure from Lootholma, Kuninkaantie 193, Kustavi.
