Club For Five brings to the stage the Finnish songs that have touched hearts across the decades. The concert moves from
treasured classics of Finnish music to newer favourites – from Katri Helena to Nightwish and from Dingo to Juha Tapio. This creatively and surprisingly crafted a cappella evening combines humour, powerful emotions and a magnificent vocal ensemble sound. The human voice and the Finnish language resonate together in a way that feels straight from the heart. The virtuosic quintet — Maija Sariola (soprano), Saima Haapanen (alto), Jouni Kannisto (tenor), Juha Viitala (baritone) and Tuukka Haapaniemi (bass) — has released 13 studio albums, six of which have achieved gold status. The group arrives in Uusikaupunki on Friday, March 27 at 7 pm. Advance tickets are available lippu.fi. Photo: Club For Five Facebook.

History comes alive at the museums

museo
Wahlberg´s Museum House (Ylinenkatu 11) is located in the historic grid-plan town centre, surrounded by charming wooden houses. The impressive residence was built in the early 1870s by Fredrik Wahlberg, founder of Uusikaupunki’s tobacco factory.

The rooms still feature original decorative tiled stoves and exquisite ceiling paintings. In the salon, you can even admire hand-painted original wallpapers dating back more than 150 years.

Upstairs, the museum presents shipbuilding, outfitting and merchant shipping. Sailors’ sea chests, souvenirs, ship paintings and a captain’s navigation instruments offer fascinating insights into the town’s maritime history. Younger visitors can play detective and complete exhibition-related tasks during their visit.

You can explore maritime history and bourgeois life from Tuesday to Friday, from 12 to 3 pm.

näyttely
Wahlberg´s Museum House presents the exhibition “Among the First – Women of Uusikaupunki in a Man’s World”, featuring a total of 13 local women from the late 19th and early 20th centuries who were pioneers in professions that were officially open only to men at the time. Such occupations long included, for example, organists and physicians.

Many of these women also pursued hobbies that were not yet considered suitable for women, such as hunting or sailing.

The exhibition is open during the museum’s regular opening hours until March 27.

automuseo
Located on Autotehtaankatu, the Car Museum is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. Across three exhibition halls, visitors can explore more than one hundred vehicles – from classic cars to futuristic concept models, as well as motorcycles and even an aircraft.

A place of honour is given to Korvensuu (1913), the first Finnish car manufactured in Mynämäki. The museum also features the very first Saab produced at the Uusikaupunki car factory on November 13, 1969. This Saab 96 was presented to President Urho Kekkonen and carried the registration number EKA-96. In addition, visitors can see older Saabs manufactured in Trollhättan, Sweden, including the first Saab 92 registered in Finland in 1950.

The museum also includes a restoration workshop, a museum shop, and a diverse art exhibition from a Finnish private collection, featuring works by Juhani Palmu and Pekka Laiho.

Pamprinniemellä meren rannalla

As spring approaches, you can enjoy the coastal nature of the area, for example along the Pamprinniemi nature trail in Pyhämaa. In the city centre area, you will find Hiunjärvi, known as a bird lake, with its nature trail and campfire shelter. The accessible outdoor trail and birdwatching platform at Kasarminlahti can be reached on foot, for example from the sports field parking area. There is also a campfire shelter near the trail. The Oinassaari campfire shelter in Korssaari is another pleasant destination for a small excursion. It is located about 18 kilometres from the centre of Uusikaupunki towards Lepäinen. Pack something to grill in your backpack and head out!
