Upea maisema Kaupunginlahti

City Bay and Story Boards

The sea extends into the very center of the city as Kaupunginlahti. In the old waterfront warehouses, you’ll find a variety of charming restaurants and terraces, along with a few newer buildings.

The renovated and beautifully illuminated seaside boulevard invites visitors to the shore of Kaupunginlahti. The maritime phrases and ship names embedded in the quay wall and paving stones reflect the city’s maritime history. The named ships were either built in Uusikaupunki or were once regular visitors to the city’s harbor. The pier names represent the trade routes of old merchant ships: Stockholm, Copenhagen, and London. Storytelling text walls introduce these three cities.

Around Kaupunginlahti, there are also 10 smaller story boards, featuring photographs and entertaining anecdotes about life in Uusikaupunki in the old days.
