The Sailor’s Home Museum
EXPERIENCE THE MARITIME HISTORY OF UUSIKAUPUNKI IN THE SUMMER MUSEUMS
To balance off the luxury of the tobacco merchant’s house, visit the Sailor’s Home museum on the western edge of Myllymäki, where you can imagine what the life of an ordinary sailor’s family was like in the early 20th century Uusikaupunki. The museum building is one of the oldest remaining residential buildings in town, and it was probably built in the late 18th century.
In the museum, during the summer, you can experience the melodic sound installation 'The Song of the Siren.' It is based on old sailors' beliefs and, at the same time, an imaginative interpretation of the life of the sailor Viktor Roslöf who lived in the house. The piece features vocals by Sanna Arell and was created by Mikko Rantanen.
